Well, our little Duchess finally made the journey to the rainbow bridge. Even though her health had deteriorated in the last year or so due to 3 bouts of vestibular disease, she was still a happy trooper and managed just fine, except for stairs. I can't recall if she was 14 or 15, but she had a long happy life of good eats, fun, and love. She was quite the roamer when she was younger, and wouldn't hesitate to spend hours mucking about in sloughs or pothole ponds chasing muskrats and ducks. Never really did catch anything, but it was pure happiness for her. She'd get in chit from her mama for being filthy swamped up and muddy head to tail, but she didn't even care.

While all dogs are special, she was special in the fact that I got her when the wife and I were first together, and it was actually her first (very own) dog. She had dogs around while growing up, but never a dog that was hers, or that she had for a puppers whole lifetime.

So here we are a couple days ago out of the blue, she started having seizures...at first we thought it was mini strokes or something, and after she had a couple, we (perhaps naively) thought it was just another challenge, and we'd get it figured out. Long story short, 5 seizures in 12 hours and we knew it was time. I think she knew it was time as well. It's hard to explain but she was showing us it was time, and that it was okay to let her go. And that we needed to help her get there.

Gonna take some time to get used to her being gone and there's a pretty big chunk of emptiness in my heart. So give your puppers the best life they can have, and as that saying goes, try to be at least half as good as your dog thinks you are. Justin iphone pics 123.JPG

Sorry for your loss brother. One thing about a dog adopting one of us humans is they have to say goodbye at around 12 to 14 on average. It's never easy but it sounds like she had quite an adventure.

Thank you all for the kind words and support, it means a lot to me. I know when I read others who post about their pets going to the rainbow bridge, it saddens my heart. Maybe that's taking away some of their pain on some spiritual level, who knows?
