-10f and clear now. Snow starting this afternoon with 4-8" by 6AM. I have a mix of sugar maple and paper birch blazing in the heart. After the cold snap through next weekend I will need a new load of hardwood transferred down from the cabin, which is the plan in a few weeks.
Woke to a decent bed of coals, plenty to start her up again. 25° outside, 69° inside. Nice hefty load of pine to get er cranking... Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
-17 now just as the sun is starting to hit the horizon. 68 inside when I woke up at 6 with the furnace doing a little work. 70 now so the IS is crankin in the basement. Supposed to be 8" of white stuff on the way this afternoon into tomorrow morning. This will be our first decent snowfall of the season. Looking at highs in the double digits below zero mid week. There will be no way of keeping up to that without the furnaces helpn trying to heat from the basement!! Thats fine with me though because at some point heating becomes a chore and then its not fun for me. I will take the days the furnace stays off with temps above 0 with little effort. Waking up in the middle of the night to save a few bucks just isn't worth the hassle to me. I really feel for the ones that don't have that luxury though! Huddled around the stove and waking up multiple times in the night to keep the loved ones warm is true dedication!!
Woke to a pleasant surprise in temps, it was -9 when I turned in. Spruce in the blaze king keeping it warm. I sure like these warm spells they save the wood pile.
Well temps have warmed up, about 8" of snow fell, and just waiting on the winds to roll in. Calling for 25-45 mph winds apparently. An hour south of here may see 50-55 mph winds today!
Not going to be fun outdoors with the cold and wind. But I might get the tractor out today to push the snowbanks back before the snow hits tomorrow. That snow I pushed a few days ago is like a rock so it will cause problems clearing more snow using atv. But the tractor should be able to move that stone okay, it just won't be fun in this cold wind. Might also have to go get some diesel fuel before the storm; just in case.
We are mid 20s with partly cloudy skies and no wind to speak of. Chaz is out moving snow with both kubota and ATV. Not looking forward to the freeze coming.
I slept late this morning so I don't know how low we went, it was 20 when I got up and lit the fire and moved some wood around out side. The plan was to get some rounds out of the woods, but, my son called to tell me his snowblower isn't throwing snow. Belts, So I drove up to his town to pick it up and bring to my buddy who has a shop and does that stuff. I discovered I had a low tire in my truck. Upon investigation I found I had a bolt in rear tire. So now I had to run around and find a tire dealer open on Sunday. I did, of course they were packed. Come back in a few hours, I did. It was a 5/16" bolt an inch and half long buried right in there. There went my day. Minus 22 bucks for the plug.
0 degrees right now. 5-10 inches of snow on the way. Highs of -12 Tuesday and Wednesday lows of -30+ Wind chills of -50 .Going to be a brutal week no doubt. Wood storage areas full of oak. House and shop at 70f stoves Cranking. We’re ready.
16 out 72 in, just loaded oak and ash about 5:30. Forecast shows 6 overnight then up to 38 by tomorrow afternoon and chance of rain before the bottom falls out till Sat. single digits and doubles below zero, red oak, black locust and a drizzle of ash on the ready. Taking off tomorrow and Tues. then back at just in time for the deep freeze.

Current temp 28°F heating down to -2°F overnight and we have nearly whiteout conditions with wind. Walked 200ft to dump ashes, turned around and the dump came- could barely see the house! Been doing this off and on all day!
