Fun stuff! So glad we sold our place in Jackman, don't have to pay to keep it plowed out anymore. Did the rain melt a lot of snow for you? 17° here, headed to the lower 30's. I'm going to squeak out one more day working outside. I have some chunks of black locust that are too long for the stove, and my husband is putting a new chain on the saw for me. Tomorrow is supposed to hit 40°, but I'm babysitting. I'm burning my way through the red maple while temps are milder. I'm also trying to empty one bay of the shed, so I can use it to store fresh-split wood temporarily. One and a half rows left.
So, -13 is colder than -6, right? Thought so. The first one is where we are, the second is what was forecast. Dogs didn't even wanna stay out more than enough to turn the snow yellow. 68 IAT, and it feels cooler than that. Stat may need a slight adjustment. Thing is, we're down the hill on our road in a low spot and tend to be a bit cooler than the "official" temp.
Jackman huh? I guess you know what real cold and snow are like. It’s a great little town. We used to ride ATV’s up that way quite a bit and I’ve done some work up there. Beautiful country between Jackman and Greenville! I’m kinda jealous of the lack of snow at your place. I’m glad you’re still getting some time outdoors! The rain knocked our snow down to about a foot or so of hard pan, and ice is covering anything without snow pretty much. The roads are clear though at least. Enjoy it before the next cold snap hits!
5* out 68* in. Loaded some more ash. Chance of flurries with a high of 26* today. Sounds like a beautiful day to refill the wood box in the garage before the arctic blast moves in at the end of the week.
-13° right now. At least there's zero wind chill and it's still a real feel of -13. Going to rechooch with American elm, red oak, and sugar maple. Edit. Shagbark hickory, red oak and sugar maple.
16 & 71, loaded ash, oak and locust. Going to Mid 20's, perfect day to cut & I am off to run the saws. Happy day.
Jackman was my mom's second home, she spent some time up there during winter, but not me. Once she got too old it just sat empty in winter, burning kerosene and plow money. Sorry you are encased in that white cement.
-30 here this morning. It just may drop a couple more with the pre-dawn thing going on. Good thing is, the winds are almost calm.....almost!
I'm not too sure, but I think that thing called the sun is outside. Doubt it'll warm things up much, but it's nice to see. Makes all the frigid, snow covered trees, very pretty.
16* this morning Maple in OWB doing a good job keeping the house warm. Headed out for a ride through Southern Vermont just to get out for awhile. Fire should be good till later.
Temps are on the upswing now. -30 is the coolest it reached. In these temps (and this house) the blower motor on the furnace runs constantly. We will have negative temps for another week.
Horkn What are they forecasting for snow for you on Sunday/Monday? Here in the western part of the state they are talking of 5-10 inches.
They are hesitant to nail down a forecast, but they say it will be wet heavy snow, and worse than the store we just got a couple of days ago. I'm hearing anywhere from 5" to a foot of snow. I brought my laptop home from work just in case Monday is not worth it to drive in.
depends how it tracks, they were saying that most of snow was going to be west of I94, but that didn't stop them from saying 5-8 over here by I41, plus wind and drifting from same. -22 deg. this morning in garage almost no wind out at 5 am. At shop now in Milw. north side of town -15 on bank sign. Took awhile for the diesel to warm up this morning, but fired right off first try. brakes were like pushing on wet clay even after the 1 hour drive.
Had some fun out in the snow, 20 outside now. 72 inside. 4 to 5 inches expected today and tonight. Stove still cruising on this mornings load.
Apparently it's still January. Poplar in the reactor chasing the chill. Might be a nasty rain/snow/crazy wind event hitting us, just depends how far north it goes. Wait and see.
Not sure if the the jet stream is the cause or the effect, but it's interesting to watch the map daily.
I've been in -50 degrees and I've been in -50 wind chill. They are not the same, no matter what the weather people say. And one of the nicest days I remember was one day it was -34 and sunny with no wind. Beautiful....at least if you didn't stay out too long. AT first it feels great.
