Ok I don't shop but I do know the price of Crab legs at any given time.:salute: :coldone:

Went into town to grab beer and was told to grab a pack of Hamburg along with the legs and this is what I ended up with. Has meat gone through the roof lately? as I'm thinking $6.50+tax for a pound of hamburger is a little high even for Walmart.:picard:

And I thought it was bad when the local butcher shop had burger 85 % lean at $5.00 a pound! I'm sure glad I have my own beef and only pay the processing fee. I just picked up a pork loin for $1.69/Lb. Crazy you can get it 3 x cheaper than burger.

I just bought a choice sirloin cap for less than that. Random ground should be under $4 but now you are going to make me look next time in the store.

I don't think you could pay that much if you tried around here. $3.99 is about the top of the market for ground beef.

Our local grocer has meat on sale fairly often, so we usually stock up on the lean stuff when we see a good deal. Just had tacos with ground turkey.....it's cheaper than beef, although not as tasty.
GB has been going up for at least a couple years around here.
Not a huge deal as we don't eat much red meat anymore. I love me a good NY strip though.

Usually at $6.50/lb it's fresh ground, Angus, 90% lean and found at the local butcher shop. $3/lb is about as high as I'll go and that's when it's not on sale. 80% ground chuck is usually $2.50 to $2.80/lb.

Pork and chicken are definitely cheaper. We buy 40# boxes of chicken leg quarters or split breasts at Restaurant Depot for 40 to 50 cents a pound, whole pork loin is usually under a buck, and even pork tenderloin and St. Louis spares are in the $2 range.

We buy half a pig twice a year and 1/2 beef about every 1-1/2 yrs. We usually get a couple deer as well. We never do without quality protein. That said, we run out of steaks early. Luckily, when I travel to Chicago, I will check the weekly ad and make a side trip and divert off I-80 up to Niles, MI (Bucannon) and stop at Lowerys Grocery. Just bought a trunk full a few weeks ago.

The only issue is that they only wrap the entire loin, you have to wrap it the way you want at home. We vacuum seal ours.

80% hamburger for $2.99/pound here lately.
Decent steaks are insane. Also eating smaller portions of steaks. Some I don't even like any more.
We've been eating more pork chops and chicken it seems. Although chicken isn't cheap any more like it used to be either.

We get some low chicken prices here on family pacs of drumsticks and thighs. I like to roll them in some seasoned flour or breadcrumbs and bake to golden and serve with some wild rice and veggies for a nice dinner. Do the same with pork chops too billb3.

Red meat for us is ground venison burger and sausage, along with venison backstrap steaks, and venison top round roasts.

I will also buy a nice beef or pork roast on sale now and again and cook those in the crock pot, or the oven.

It's insane some of the prices stores sell it for, even from one to the next in our area.
