I tried Buffalo Trace at the Newport Boat show last Sept on recommendation of a bar tender who had about 10 or 15 different "high tech" bourbons. He said he thinks it's better than all the expensive ones... Well after trying it, I agreed with him, that is a GREAT bourbon! But I have also since found out it comes from one of the biggest distilleries in the country which makes the bourbon for many of the other brands as well. No wonder it's so good!

BUT, this past weekend I was up skiing in Vt, and brought up a bottle of Long Island made boubon called "Rough Rider". I will tell you what, it is now my favorite bourbon of ALL TIME! I can not believe somebody on LI is making this stuff, amazing. I would have never believed it. I saw it on a TV show the other day, and said wow I have to try that, it's made in my backyard.

I am gonna try and revamp this thread and see whatever bourbons I should be trying and what you guys have for a cold winter night like we are having.

For Christmas the little lady bought me a case of Jim Beam "Double Oak". We were at the liquor store before Christmas and they had this stuff for $17 a bottle which after grabbing 6 she just looked at me and asked "Do you want a case?" I felt a little like an alcoholic walking out with a case but it is really good stuff and was a great price (at full price it works out to: buy 7 get 5 free!). Plus, I have it in a safe place so when I stumble on the case again in a year or so it will be like a surprise again when found in its hiding spot.

I like bourbon:D.. It makes me happy and is a great muscle relaxant.

Dropping a few IQ points makes dealing with tenants easier;)

I never did like the after burn with bourbon so switched to rye and then scotch. Still have bourbon though.

I just got started in on Whisky about 9 months ago... But a few I enjoy are: Buffalo Trace, Cedar Lodge - Corn whiskey out of Iowa (Costco $33), Beer Barrel Rye out of New Holland Beer Company, and Knob Creek Rye ....

Elijah Craig is the current bottle I'm sipping. Four Roses makes some great stuff as well.

...and I can dance great too.:dancer:

Back to the OP, I swear I just seen this oak spiral in a bottle for the first time on the weekend. I just can't remember if it was at the liquor store or on a commercial. After checking tonight, there are a few videos out there. Sounds good in theory and worth a try.

I just finished the last of my Pappy VanWinkle, that I share with a friend every New Year the past four years. It lives up to its reputation.

Regulate VanWinkle is prett good too, though expensive, nothing close to the Pappy.

I like Woodford Reserve, and a few others. For every day stuff, I like Evan Williams. Never really found a Jack Daniels I like that well. Happy to drink it if offered.

    No advice on the ageing.
I like makers mark but I prefer crown royal or jamesons for a straight whiskey.
I've been known to go down a whiskey river from time to time, I'm past due for a trip..

Myself, all bourbon tastes like gas, my cousin loves the stuff. He has me on the look out for the limited release Pappy Van Winkle stuff.
He told me if I ever found a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle, the 23 year old stuff I should buy it for him.
Well turns out my local liquor store has it, and all the other aged stuff, I think there is a 20 yr and 13 yr.
He also has all sorts of other limited release stuff.

So I call my cousin and tell him I found a bottle of the 23 yr Pappy Van Winkle. He asks if I bought it and I tell him I did.
Then he asks the price. Price on the bottle is $2600. Thats right Two thousand Six hundred dollars.
The phone went silent for a while.
Finally I said, No, I didn't get it, at that price I figured I'd ask you how serious you are.
    He passed.

The liquor store is in a small town that gets high rollers in the summer and thats when he sells a bottle or two.
He has sold for suggested prices in the past and seen them end up on ebay for sale at the big bucks. So now he says "screw it, I'm not letting the stuff go cheap so my customers can turn it around and make the big bucks, I'm going make the big bucks."
