Any of you guys do the annual spring brown trout fishing on Lake Ontario. I'm going to be making some trips up there during May to work the shoreline between the Niagara River and Ollcott. My brother says they are starting to get some good action now between Wilson and Ollcott. I used to live on Grand Island and still make trips back there to fish the lower Niagara and Ontario. I only have a 16' StarCraft "bow-rider" boat so I have to pick my days with little wind, or southerly winds and such. I have a 1962 Boston Whaler project boat that I need to get finished this year, then I can go anytime!!! Luckily, my younger brother keeps his 27' Boston Whaler at Wilson!!!
Here's the smallest brown I got a few weeks ago in a secret trib of Lake Ontario. I don't take many pics these days so this was a quick one by my buddy... I do all catch and release for steel and brown, but I'll keep a salmon or two for eggs. Have you ever fished the piers in the fall? It's scumbag heaven, but can be a blast when bottles are popping consistently. Olcott is fun... Burt Dam is not haha.
Nice one, secret tributary huh ..................... we're going to have to talk about that one! You'll find me out front of those piers trolling. I'm all catch and release up there too. I ate a lot of them years ago but I don't really care for the flavor of them compared to ocean ones. Here is my biggest fall king, 39lb if I remember. Won a nice reel for "big fish of the day" in a derby out of Olcott that day.
heck ya! If you're over in Olcott then you're not that far from my "secret" spot (it was kinda secret until the internet exploded and the stream was NAMED in a fly fishing magazine haha). If you ever want to travel East along the shore the Wautoma shoals were my old stomping grounds--- Olcott gets a more condensed run of fish, though. Nice KING... picking up any Cohos? Ever get into draggin for Lakers? It's kinda boring up there, but they're big. I got into jigging for them down here on the Finger Lakes this winter.
