My wife & I took the dogs for a walk through the woods yesterday afternoon. We went way off trail on the way back and discovered this maple blow-down. This afternoon I was able to wend my way through the trees with the tractor to access the tree. Lots of slow going - up, down & lots of around. Got a couple loads of rounds moved out nearer the trail. Then split & stacked one tractor bucket load. Those rounds are HEAVY!!!

Now that the ground finally froze, we did similar.

    Log length Beech:

Long story, but it felt good to run a saw for the first time in 9 months.

Would have been more full if I did have frozen combine ruts to traverse.

    It was a good afternoon.

Nice that you got out to cut Casper . I have made Beech my new favorite firewood. Looks like you have plenty to choose from there.

Forester said they didn't want to promote the destruction of a species, but he considered them (beech) a "weed tree". He marked a bunch, but left a few for den trees. We hired him to help us make the woods healthier.

Beech is a great tree for wildlife. Produces lots of mast. Somewhat of a limited market, but it is one of my favorite trees. Good for firewood too!
