That makes sense, but people need to temper their idea of what performance is. Unless tuned to all get out, they are slow. When tuned to be fast, then they suck fuel, and can't tow.
The truth is there is no perfect vehicle, you just have to find one that ticks as many boxes as you can find.

    Block heaters...
Some are made to plug in and heat things up in an hour. Some are made to leave plugged in all night. Gotta gauge the cord and your heat times accordingly

6.0 liters left alone no tuner, proper servicing and ford gold coolant are a good engine. Had a cable truck I worked on with tons of hours and it only had injectors and updated oring and backers on the hi press oil rail. Was well in the 250k Mark when I left that garage... However almost every tuned 6.0 I ever saw ate itself alive.... But they sounded sweeet

I find it entertaining how some diesel truck threads on numerous sites get turned into what people “need”.

Meh, Ive owned 3 so far. Prolly could have done all the work with a mule. Ive had two 7.3L and just bought a 6.0L. For the last 17 years I had a 99’ 1500 suburban. It did what I needed but there were casualties.

Two transmissions and a transfer. Was over working that truck but I got it done. My lastest rig, I paid less for than some peoples monthly mortgage. It has 224k on it, needs some body love, major engine bits are sorted. Im going to egr delete along with an exhaust. I had an Sct tuner for the monitoring but decided to go with thier touch screen model.

I wrench on all my junk. Very few shops in my area are knowledgable on these rigs. If ya need it buy it but be prepared to pay top dollar to have it repaired if you cant/wont do it yourself.

Saw a LPG semi on the interstate yesterday!

Last new diesel pickup I purchased was in 09, was not pleased with power or performance. Had some complaints and finally factory traded me out for new truck. Job change so only kept the replacement for <1000 miles so can’t say how it did. Diesel price up, fuel mileage down, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are no longer a 3/4 or 1 ton. They are more comparable to 2-3 ton trucks of days gone by.

Houses, campers, boats, everything is bigger these days.

Went to an auction today 2005 dodge diesel 39,000 miles one owner sold for $26,500

You might have to wait on buying that new truck thanks to the U.S. gov’t shutdown

Ram 3500 launch delayed since automaker can't get certification from absentee EPA

The government shutdown is delaying Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’s efforts to bring crucial new heavy-duty Ram pickups to the market.

The Ram 3500 still needs emissions certification from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to be approved for sale, and that process is being held up by the shutdown, Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley said at the North American International Auto Show.

“I am concerned, very concerned, because if it continues, it will have an impact on on the launch,” Manley told reporters in Detroit.

“The earlier that it can be resolved, clearly the better, and obviously I’m not the only person saying that.”

Chrysler pulled the wraps off the new Rams at the auto show earlier Monday. The company is riding strong sales momentum in the all-important full-size pickup segment, having just outsold General Motors’s Chevrolet Silverado to rank second in the fourth quarter, behind Ford’s F-Series.

While Ford and GM are closing plants and killing off sedans to invest in electrification and autonomous vehicles, Fiat Chrysler has overhauled its U.S. factories to build more sport utility vehicles. It was the only one of Detroit’s three automakers to increase sales in a flat U.S. market last year, with record deliveries for its Jeep and Ram brands.

The Italian-American company is retooling a Detroit engine plant to make a new three-row Grand Cherokee, on top of preparations to build the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in Warren, Michigan and plans to add a “significant” number of new jobs.

The partial federal shutdown, now in its 24th day, has idled the EPA, including the agency’s Office of Transportation and Air Quality. Its vehicle-testing lab is responsible for issuing certifications verifying that new vehicles comply with federal emissions rules, which automakers must obtain before sales can begin.

Fiat Chrysler last week agreed to pay some $800 million to settle civil lawsuits by states, car owners and the U.S. Justice Department over alleged violations of U.S. clean-air rules.

Regulators found illegal emissions-control software on 2014 to 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs and Ram 1500 pickups that helped the vehicles pass government lab tests while exceeding pollution standards in real-world driving.

Ram dealers up here were having a hard time earlier this year getting 2019 1500's with the new electrical assist hemi's due to the EPA taking a long hard look at them after the Ecodiesel deception.
