How could you tell it was Locust without bark & leaves. Nice score! That stuff's worth it even with those thorns, & they are nasty.
Those thorns do look menacing for sure. Never have burned any locust but sounds like it must be good. Congrats.
Those thorns will puncture a 10 ply tire, dam things are like iron spikes. You get poked or scratched by one it'll often welt & fester for days, especially on live trees. Nasty buggers they are.
Thankfully bark and the attached thorns was sort of falling off, so cut the main log 80% then sort of rolled it over half a turn and it rolled out of its bark and thorns pretty well.
Great wood. I second the longer seasoning time. It also makes a beautiful piece of wood when milled, if you can find enough big ones to mill. I once saw a floor made of honey locust and it was a work of art.
I cut a couple last winter that was standing dead. Only a couple thorns left. Processed easy! But after css all summer it tested 20-24%. I did split a little big but it has to wait another year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
