Got back out this afternoon for the second oak from last year. This one was a bit father off the trail so I brought the winch to pull it out . Cut the top off then in two . First half hooked up. Second half on its way Almost out My winch set up for those that have not seen it. Loaded up and headed back. Split and stack before dinner.
Great work getting it done before the snow and cold! You might have lost track of it if the snow gets deep enough.
My most favorite flavor, Dead Oak. Even better when it’s a fall that’s levitating a couple feet off the ground! Nice job!
All from Tractor Supply but the replacement rope that’s from Harbor Freight. I don’t like or trust cable so I bought two of the ropes . One on the winch the other to get deeper into the brush off the trail. I have the 4500 UTV unit but think the 2500 would work. Just be sure to get a ATV unit as they draw less off the battery. Mounts to the hitch receiver. Much safer than cable and cheap enough . Have used them for a few years now and no issues to date.
That’s a Yutrax with duelys It’s great for rough and rocky terrain. The duellys keep the deck pretty level so there’s no more yard sales because the single axle craftsman had flipped on its side. I recommend it! In the avatar, that’s a load of dead oak.
Oh man! the feeling I get then I see a tree that has fallen but the roots keep it off the ground at a height to just cut rounds in a couple minutes. Of course each time I cut it at the bottom and the stump and roots all fall back in place; making it look like the tree was cut at the stump-- I always think "I could have put a body under there, and it would never be found".
Or you can get the regular version like I have. However, I've seen some of the new ones that have raised the bed a lot. I like ours because it is so low to the ground it becomes much easier to load the heavy stuff. Most times you can roll the logs in end over end to save lifting. The bed is not particularly strong but a piece of plywood or osb can take care of that. I used it a lot without the osb but waited too long and the bed looks bad if uncovered. But it still works great. I've used the trailer for many things including hauling stones. Even apples. Then I put some sideboards in to I could pile them higher without losing any.
That's a great setup you have there! I'm jealous of you guys with flat property. I have a BX 2660 that I can't use where I cut because the hillsides are too steep. I've had it up on 2 wheels a couple of times up there and I decided it wasn't worth the risk.

By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes! And down by you I predict a couple things; 1, you’ll be enjoying the Pats by candle light and transistor radio. RIP Gil Santos 2, there will be a lot of hoarding opportunities. Let me know how you make out. I can easily make the trip to help with clean up. I know there’s some oak you don’t have to worry about!

Yeah. Ice and freezing rain is forecasting power outages. Bring on the state highway, we very rarely lose power, buthe time will tell. We'll be ready for it, no doubt.
Thanks Dennis I think I am going with the single axle as that’s all I had on my Dads old rig. Found one new in box for $350.00
