That's pretty cool. I bet he was ex military.

My dad could fall asleep at drop of a hat. He said he learned that from the Air Force. He would grab sleep whenever he could before their long flights to Japan in the 50s on big and slow C97s.

I lay my head on the pillow and Lucy, our Lab, lays across the top of bed along the head board and to sleep we go.

I bet you could rent Lucy out to insomniacs if she is that helpful. :)

I like shows like that and could fall asleep just fine watching First 48, New Detectives or Forensics Files. My wife calls them "Murder, Death, Kill" shows. I guess after Demolition Man. She would probably "MDK" me if I had those on while she was trying to go to sleep.

CBD oil and Valerian root helps me sleep through the night. still wake up a lot, but am able to nod off again. Need to pay attention to my evening diet to see if that is a contributor.

Yep. I forgot to include that.
He was in France in WWII serving as a forward scout.
That had to be a big part of it for sure.

Anytime after9 PM if I am not moving, I am ready to fall right asleep.

I am also prone to falling asleep anytime after 11AM if I want to take a 20-30 minute nap. If I am busy during the day, I don't get tired.

My problem is waking up at 2 or 3AM resting until 3:30 or 4AM so I can get up and get to moving/doing something, or lately checking in on FHC!

Strange as I've never heard of this one but Benadryl has many uses. For example, I no longer can get quinine for cramps. So now I take 2 benedryl at night. It helps most of the time.

Seriously, my wife and I have a habit of reading at night (we don't watch tv). I read until I can't hold the eyes open.

There's been numerous posts about staying asleep. That's more an issue for me than actually falling asleep.

Anywhere from 1am to 3am I wake up. Sometimes it's because one of our dogs wants to go outside, but sometimes I just find myself awake.

I've used Ibuprofen PM with some success to stay asleep, but quite often when I do I have some weird dreams.

Like a few of you have said, I usually listen to something like Old Time Radio shows or background noise of Youtube (howling snowstorm or ocean sounds typically) Dragnet is a favorite radio program of mine.

wildwest I've tried similar exercise to relieve stress from being over tired. Works well.

Falling asleep? No probs there, brother!

Staying asleep or keeping the "leftovers" from showing up in bad dream form is a different matter. Usually every night. This morning it was 3:30, thank you!

    Better than the alternative, though.

If you lived in a medical state, I'd recommend looking into that. Another option since you mentioned youtube is lookup ASMR. Might help get you back to sleep.

Falling asleep, no problem. After about 5 hrs, it's time for a bathroom visit and can't fall back asleep.

Mentioned it to myou doctor. Suggested that I turn the clock away from me. Then, slow deeps breaths, counting them up to ten, then start counting at one again. It helps your mind from chasing any thoughts that creep in. Try it, it seems to work for me.

I have a hard time sleeping without some kind of ambient, steady noise.......which happens to be a big box fan set on HIGH in our bedroom, every night, all year long.
