Got a few logs cut and moved out. Nice to work with no snow on the ground at this time of the year. Just a little frost in the ground. Enough to hold up the tractor but can break through it easy.

we have some lakes, like Belgrade lake where those pike were introduced and now need to be eradicated because they are too predatory for trout etc. Catch and release is discouraged for this fish.

Sometimes pike get into trout lakes here which wrecks havoc on brookies in stocked lakes in particular. There are many natural lake trout lakes where pike, whitefish and trout are indigenous and live in balance.

That seems to be the problem, here they were not indigenous.
Trout and salmon were common. But now one lake after another is being taken over by these pike. I have been to Minnesota and fished for pike. Was surprised to hall up pike as large as my leg. Those teeth are very impressive. There, my friend and I did put them back. We just enjoyed our wild time fishing. That was over 40 yrs ago. We seldom went out and caught nothing. Here it isn't uncommon to go out and not get anything. We have some good bass fishing. Those always are catch and release. I don't know anyone who keeps them. Catch them, snap a picture, and toss them back. Less than a half mile from me is good fishing in the Kennebec. If you get a Sturgeon, you have to lease it. Those are gigantic fish. the river is 170 miles long. In some places it is good Salmon fishing. In other spots, like around here, it is the stripers that attract the fishermen. We have tide water on this end of the River. Further downriver, it is blue fishing and stripers. Something for everyone, and many good open access points. you now have to have a saltwater license to fish in the water around here. There is a dam in Waterville so after that it is no longer tide water.

Had the new spark screen on the fire pit early this morning with some nice cedar rolling. Making some room on my racks for a fire wood delivery this afternoon.

interesting to see back yards that are still useable. We have a snow and ice cover. Makes just going to the car an adventure. In hindsight, I should have attached my garage to the house.

    I know.

There's supposed to be ama sanctioned motorcycle ice racing next week on Kettle Moraine lake. My wife and i are looking forward to it, but it might not happen. Due to the lack of ice.

The one we had was a little too oil saturated. I didn't feel too well afterwards. Kinda like the feeling you get after eating at a fast food hamburger chain. Too much grease.

We had pond ice a few weeks ago, barely enough for ice fishing for two days. Wasn't thick enough for me. Guys were staying at the edge. Ponds went ice out, and are-freezing again. Unless a real winter gets here with constant teen/single digit temps, I probably won't set traps this season. Weather heading back up to the 40's this week. We have bare ground here.

That must be frustrating. Ten day continues to look tame here too. It is definitely not a typical winter in these parts either.

Might try snowshoeing today. Weather is supposed to be nice and the knees seem OK to give it a try.

Puttzing in garage this morning, got the big buddy heating going, coffee, re-organizing the gear, and getting the wheeler chained up to move my darkhouse to some new water tomorrow morning. Ice is slick now with no snow cover in the suburbs of MPLS area. Slush is bad on lakes up north...lots of snow there. Lunch after church with my wife's sister and brother-in-law, then take in some football, some beers, a fire, and probably a relaxing 20-30 minute nap.
