hej hej all, After a busy week finally getting to some relaxing wood splitting. Gosh i so much enjoy smell of fresh split woodsap! Not much done today but i got the whole weekend in front of me. Got plenty stuff to split before i go cut some new trees down. I am still an amateur with the chainsaw, i got the husqvarna 435 x-torq for 5 years now and i am very happy with it. But I think the time has come to upgrade to some more power and a longer sword chainsaw. I have been looking at the husqvarna 555 and i was hoping to get some advice from u guys. What i wanne do with the chainsaw is cutting a little faster and in the spring i want to use a self made alaska saw system to make some nice boards. Dont know what to make with it but it woulth be nice to have self made boards laying arround. You never know what pops in my mind to make I hope guys got some good advice for me! Duvekot if you want a saw for milling, I highly suggest you keep the saw you have and buy one just for milling. If you have only one saw and that is a milling saw, you will not like wrestling that thing around in the woods felling and bucking trees. Keep a smaller saw for that. You will appreciate it now and even more as you age.
Lots of truth in what Mr. Dennis’ knowledge. I don’t chainsaw mill but have some large saws. Walking around in snow deeper than knee, gets old quickly. I use a Stihl 261 (50cc) for most of my cutting in the woods. And use a Stihl 461 (76cc) for bucking the logs once home. It’s not much fun toting a 14 pound power head with a 25” bar in the bush.
I chainsaw mill and I use one that is 83c and the other one is 99cc. It takes a good size saw for milling and also some good chain sharpening techniques. It is a good goal to have to make your own slabs of wood it will just be a learning curve.
I just bought a 445 Huskie and got to say i like it very much... my older Dolmars are pretty much retired now. Well once in a while on a sunday they will cheer up the neighbours. Your place up there in the north looks well nice, i always love the amounts of birch you folks got upthere. Keep Hoarding!
