Splitting with the Fiskars maul

    Got a chance to try the new Fiskars maul on some Maple rounds. I tried to split this with my other maul and ended up doing a couple with a sledge and wedge. Pleasantly surprise how well this went through the pieces. I'm not in the best of shape so it did take a couple of whacks on a few pieces. I think this is a winner.     Yep, that’s she works! Makes pretty quick work of big rounds. I like to half or quarter the big rounds then switch to the lighter Fiskars splitting axe to save some energy and split quicker. The ISO core can get a bit heavy After a couple hours.

    The isocore is certainly impressive. It makes short work of most of the elm I've split unless it is a crotch piece or there's a serious twist in it.

    Actually after trying my other maul without success, I hauled the Fiskars and a couple of wedges up there thinking I was going to try out the sledge head on this. It worked so well, I never took the wedges out.
    These rounds are a bit heavy to move around and my first plan was to haul the hydraulic splitter up there.
    I will haul the chunks down, split them a little smaller, and put them right into the wood shed to start drying. They should be ready to burn a year from now.
    I still like my X27 for the smaller stuff.
