I initially hit like on this b/c you said you put the box wedge in place, and I thought that was “likeable...” but since my back is chronically Ph’d.... I had to rescind that quick like.
Hope ya get straightened out fast and gooder. :handshake:

And hey, that machine looks serious

I am slowly uncurling from the pretzel shape. A warmed up bean bag between me and my favourite tv chair can do wonders over several nights. Its given me time to think about how to install a swing arm winch to remove and replace the different splitter heads. In all likelihood the box wedge will probably remain in place, we'll see.

Don’t forget (after you get un-pretzelled), the back is not meant to bend and support the upper body let alone a load in front of it.
Tightening your stomach muscles and loosened up hamstrings (stretching) will always win the battle of the dreaded lower back calamity.
I know this all too well.... been fighting it since I was 19.

I know it all too well. 30 yrs of moving 100 lb sacks of bakery ingredients, your brain learns real quick on how to do it right. Problem these days is my body is not keeping pace with my brain.

Last time I messed my back up to any extent, it was from bending down and picking a piece of paper up that fell on the floor. :headbang:

This 12-22 wood splitter is designed for splitting big wood. Anyone with a firewood pile knows that you don't always get big wood. But all wood burns, so it all gets split. We're going through some small stuff at this moment, so the video just shows how quickly the cycle time is on the machine. We're using the box wedge splitting head at about 4 inches height. At this height, the small blocks split in half and everything produces 4 inch pieces. We already had the wood blocked, so it only took us 45 min to fill the truck with a full cord of split maple and birch. We have the 4 way splitter head and the 6 way, but honestly, the box wedge in my opinion is the best all round head to use. The amount of scrap wood on the ground could not fill a one cu ft bag, pretty darn good for a full cord production I think. Not scrap really, as its ideal size for fire starting.

    That's nice.

Wonder how it would handle 2 or 3 small pieces at once, side by side?

I would likely go with box wedge all the way too. Someone who didn't know what they were doing or got careless for a moment could likely do some damage with the 6 way and a really gnarly or crotchy big piece of wood.

I'd like to get familiar with the machine first before I decide to start experimenting with multitasking :)
