I am with jrider on this one! A push plate is so much easier! You spot weld some xs on plate for grip and push it thru. when the piece inevitably doesn't split all way.. no problem, No slowdown drop another round behind it.

That being said Kevin in Ohio splitter is amazing.. Vertical splitting is nice for large rounds.

It's just one of those things that everyone has a "best option" for their own needs. I've run a lot of different splitter combinations and found what worked best for our needs. Vertical splitting kills my back after several hours along with a 3 point style. I noticed it the worst when just leaning over holding the handle. Having your work at the most comfortable height is a huge difference I've found. Belt buckle or higher for me. At the end of the day you feel so much better. totally agree push throughs with multiwedges are a lot quicker but the end result of smaller pieces kills it for me. Not doing it as a business so that is a big factor in my thinking.

Swing away tables are something makers should really look hard at. It's crazy how useful they are and you aren't fighting something that is in the way when not in use. When other guys have helped and seen how they work they always talk about how nice it is. I personally never liked the side lifts as they too make a trip possibility and space cramping.

This was a near 6 foot across(at the widest) upper crotch and notice nothing hits the ground just to chunk it and the finish split. Did this tree for a neighbor and his truck was just to the left side so he threw the final splits in there. Once full got another truck and kept going. He was pretty happy to say the least.

I just received one of EastonMade's splitters, 12-22 model. This machine is the real deal.
