I buy the cheap "Pro-Mix" oil and mix it according to the label, which works out to 50:1 (but they say that it is good for all ratios). It goes into all my 2 strokes, regardless of the recommended mix. I mix it with E-Free gas. So I guess I go cheap on the oil and expensive(ish) on the gas. I have never had a problem with this combination in anything I run. I would run cheap gas as well, but ethanol has caused me problems in small equipment in the past. I run cheap bar oil as well ...
I run 50:1 using Shindiawa Red Armor oil and 93 Ethanol gas. Every other mixing I will go 45:1. Never had an issue. May start looking into e free gas because I don't burn as much mix as I used to
I run Stihl's oil at 40:1 in 100LL Avgas in all the saws, weedeater and backpack. (guaranteed 100 octane but tests at 108 and, of course, its non-e) I'm planning to switch oil once i run out of stihl oil.
Mmmmmmmmm. Avgas! Picturing myself on the um... Tarmac. Filling my giant 2.5 gal. saw gas can with high test! Good idea! The guys at our little airport should get a chuckle!
our airport has a 5 gallon minimum. i use one of these then transfer to my 2 gallon No-Spill jugs as needed
50:1 Nearest e free gas station is a two hour drive for me. I had been buying sporadically in gallon cans, @25/whack. Just last week I went to the local Marina Shop and picked up the 5 gallon can for $75. Still not cheap, but 40% off what I had been paying, plus the cost of the mix, which is the Husqvarna xp. 1 bottle to 1 gallon; 50:1. 94 Octane
I would never run a saw on Avgas. IMO, Avgas is poorly suited for pretty much anything, except when required for certain aircraft. Even most aircraft can be run on e-free mogas, and run cleaner with it. Avgas has a lot of lead, even 100LL (low lead). I would not want to be breathing in that lead. The high octane of Avgas is of no value in engines that do not need it. (Octane does not add power.) The saws that need it would only be those that have been modded to have very high compression ratios, if those even.
Completely agree. High compression takes advantage of high octane fuel. 87 proof engines get mostly zero out of it. The operator however... Thinks it runs better (this is HUGE)! And oooohhh the smell A continuing argument with sleds, bikes, saws etc. forever. Kinda funny.
50-1, Stihl oil and e-zero gas. Never have had any problems. If I add more oil, the spark arrester screen in my Stihl blower loads up with soot!
