Ways to Save Money & Live Frugally

I never heard of Aldi.

There bags of frozen chicken are about $1-1.5 cheaper per 3 pounds milk $0.40 gallon cheaper. Hamburger about $1 cheaper a pound. Veggies and fruit almost half of walmart.

Trust us ALDI goers.

There may be more than one of these threads, but I only found one with a quick search and wanted to see where everyone is at with their money savings.

Mrs. TD suggested we might need to turn the oil furnace on to take the chill off today. It's been raining for 2 days...
Nope...I gave the stove and connector pipe a good cleaning today and lit her up. I just couldn't stand the thought of giving the oil man one penny if we had a better/free way to heat.

I don't think I've ever lit a fire in September before, but since I had wood inside since last spring, might as well use some up.

What say you, hoarders?

 

Fire it up! Not only are you avoiding the high cost of oil, but shoulder season is always the most economical time to burn.

 

Don't heat by the calendar. We take care of ourselves by needs and wants. Only you and your spouse determine what resources you want to have in place. Like sometimes I want a turkey dinner other than on Thanksgiving. Enjoy your wood burning.

Had to bump this thread up after finding a smokin' deal a Giant.
We never go to Giant but today we only needed a couple things and it was on our way ....
Found good dog food at 50% off
so we bought it all...

 

We generally get a half of a cow a year. But this year we went with a quarter since we still had some left from before. But we do a lot of hamber meal and they had an additional 35 lbs for $100 so we picked that up. Granted we took a loan out for the kubota but we it will be saving us the cost of hiring a buddy to do it for us. It will pay for itself and Chaz can do it on his schedule. I also take advantage of the giant store near us. I watch for when they have case load special on chicken. Thighs and leg quarters then vacuum seal. Dinner portions. I also like the family dollar etc. type stores.

 

We have fed our dogs this same food for 25 years.
but I've never seen it in a grocery store.
Only at the feed mill and TSC.

 

To save money, i drive just beater cars, under$500,
The one I'm driving now, kinda embarrassed to say but i haven't changed the oil, ever, in 4 years.
It burns enough that when the oil light comes on i top it off with used oil that i get from customers cars at work which still looks good after 7000km


I spend where i absolutely need to, eat out very little, work long hours when it's of benifet to me
I will buy quality tools if used frequently, cheap ones that won't
Eat at my folks place here and there ( its not freeloading, its quality time) and i suck with cooking

when you find your brand of dog food at 50%, you buy it.
this has never happened before...

That stuff's usually $50 a bag

 

Probably means it is very close to its expiration date. Not that the dogs can read it, or that it will go instantly bad so I personally wouldn't worry about it.

 

Things that will kill ya are any high interest loans or credit cards, I pay cash for everything. Got a Chihuahua dog so I don't spend much on dog food. Wood heat of course, wouldn't touch a pellet stove even if someone else paid for it! And I'm willing to decapitate anyone who praises electric heat. My power bill runs 40-60$ a month.

 

Buy low, sell high.

 

but electric heat is 100% efficient...
