With the holiday and a more than nagging cough, I’ve been idle enough to go a little stir crazy. So I took another shot of cough medicine and hit the woods to look for a tree that needed to come down. I found a nice sized red oak that was showing some serious signs of rot but still alive. It was leaning slightly 180* out from where I wanted to drop it so I hooked up about 50’ of straps and put some tension in the right direction. After cutting the wedge and 80% of the back cut, I pulled sideways on the strap until it came down......right where I wanted it. I got about 24’ of good rounds and should be able to get a little more. It has some rot on the outside but a lot of good solid wood left.
Nice work. I know what you mean about going a little stir crazy, I went out today and broke out the sledge and wedge on some big maple rounds I had. Felt good to get some blood moving.
I did a little more pine this afternoon. By hand because my back is feeling pretty good and I don't have to pull either splitter out of the garage. Plus we're getting low on split pine. We used a cord last Winter and we're now down to 1/3 cord. So I gotta get cracking even if everything is still soaking from the rain yesterday and last night. At least it was a nice sunny day to be out.
Wife and I took the youngest to a wildlife sanctuary today for a nice hike through the woods. It was a nice peaceful break after the past week!
Hope you feel better soon. Getting out and doing what you want is good for the soul. Good job on the tree. Be some good wood. I cut up a 12-13" cherry that had blown down and I had pulled it out several months ago. Got to split and stack it next week.
