We watched die hard the other day and laughed when we saw the gas prices. 75 cents or somewhere around there.

We haven't burned any oil, propane, etc for 9-10 years. This was the Quad CB 1200 we started out with that heated our house.

Now it's the pellet furnace and wood stove that do the work from the basement.

It's there. Those pics are not from this year.

I always try and at least clean a little before taking a pic (staged pics ). Here is two from tonight. Rug needs vacuuming because of dog/cat hair and wood chips.

Plus the floor has some dust because the fine filtration bag I use in the shop vac for the pellet stoves was not seated correctly when I changed it last week. So ash got blown everywhere downstairs.

Remember, I was a little kid.....we're probably talking early 60's here, and it was in Newburgh, NY. It always has the lowest gas prices for quite a distance here. Even today, I can get gas for at least 20 cents/gal cheaper than anywhere else......the big fuel tank depot is right on the river.

EDIT: All that said, I just made a trip to N. Carolina last weekend.....got gas in Va. & N.C. for $1.99/gal.

Just had propane tank filled,at that price I may be shutting down the pellet stove.Owner gal at the company says she does not know why it is so cheap, but, they are very reputable, and do not rape customers.

OK,according to the online fuel cost/usage calculators, would be slightly over 19 dollars to burn pellets, and slightly over 24 dollars,to burn propane.1.75/gal propane,245/ton pellets.

Yup, as a kid I remember my mother driving away from a gas station after refusing to pay .339 per gallon during the 1973 oil crisis. OPEC no longer has a stranglehold on the US.....our shale industry is learning how to extract oil at less cost and every time OPEC tries to cut production and/or raise prices, the US shale industry is ready and willing to step up. Even better, US shale crude is "light and sweet" as opposed to heavy, Sulphur-laden oil coming out of Venezuela. Refining costs are lower for US shale oil and it's in high demand.
