So, on the Oregon website they list the price of the 620-120 chain grinder at over $700 while Amazon has it for $368. What's up with that? What am I missing here?
Amazon may have a 3rd party that's selling an item and it maybe used but you have to be careful with 3rd party sellers , amazon usually has the best prices on the web
No difference. Just make sure it says “new” and pay with credit card or PayPal for purchase protection. It’s $346 on EBay, $374 on Amazon, $474 on Northern tool. $529 on treestuff and the MSRP is $729 so that’s what the manufacturer charges. Every entity has different cost structures, profit margin requirements, tax implications, etc, etc. you can do better than amazon on occasion but it takes work to find the deals. I’ve found stuff cheaper on Jet.com for auto parts simply because it was free shipping. Online retailers are in a constant battle with each other for market share. Sometimes the consumer benefits.
dig around some more. Oregon prices are way over the top. 620-120 is the same as the Jolley super which is made by Tecomec. As are about 80% of the chain grinders. Do you really need the Hydro assist in closing the clamp? Do you really need the tilting vise? So I have a couple different models here at my shop which I have not unpacked yet. one is a base model vise does not tilt but it is adjustable fore and aft to keep your wheel centered ( well slightly off center to allow for clearance on the side strap when gettin to bottom of gullet as your wheel wears down- mute point if using the bozon wheels)) and same unit with the hydro assit. LED light built in as well both units I have them to do a review for my wholesaler on each. I can tell you -wherever they are being made , that parts are interchangeable between them and Oregon, Tecomec and a bunch of others. Oregon 511ax- the vise was a nice idea very poor execution mfg wise, around here the vise lasted about 3 months ( I do a lot of chains commercially) I have had a couple of the fully automatic units in the shop for trials- too many problems- I can't afford the Franzen which is around the price of a small SUV. As yet I have no idea how long that hydro assist will last nor the cost of replacement of just that section should it go south. To save on your wallet I would skip the hydro. why? because that is adding some $200+ dollars to the same model without it. For a homeowner small tree service heck even for a bunch of the hacks at the hardware stores it isn't needed. the plain old cam operated vise section can be replaced piece by piece very inexpensively should you ever need to. By the way all the castings are interchangeable also. Just my .0002 cents worth. Right now I have 8 different chain grinders here I have no favorite between them. with each one -to keep the cutters even - it is required to adjust the stop pawl between left and right cutters.
I remember one time pricing something; maybe it was a pickeroon. One place wanted around $70 if I remember right. Ordered it from Amazon for around $50. It came from the first place I priced it!
My wife was just doing some shopping for new pots and pans. Macys had a decent deal on a set, but Home Depot had the same calphalon for way less. Amazon was by far the worst deal, by over $200. We didn't even know that HD sold pots and pans. While they don't have it in store, they ship it to us or do in store pick up for free. So, do your homework peeps.
