PPE, just a reminder

    I was out Monday afternoon cutting a new trail up to the back shelf of the woods. I mostly go around the bigger stuff and only cut the small trees, briars, and brush so I was being lax (bad boy)... I had my chaps on but left the helmet and face screen in the truck back on the other side of the creek.

    It was a 1-1/2" diameter dead limb 4' long and only fell from about 20' up max.

    They make PPE for a reason...

    I learned some new words... All better now, but I was lucky it wasn't way worse.

    I cant like this. Im glad it wasn't worse but also no that had to hurt like you no what.

    Ouch! Heal up quick and remember the full PPE next time, as I’m sure you will.:confused:

    I wish I had taken a pic of a fella I work with.... he tried to cut a sapling that got pretzeled by a larger tree which had fallen.
    Thankfully it didn’t fling the saw at him, but the sapling did a number on his face!!! I mean Klingons have smaller nubs on their foreheads, let alone above their left eyebrow :pain:

    Thanks for the well wishes. It looked worse than it really was, but it was too close of a call for comfort... It could have at least taken that skin tag off... LOL It took longer to straighten out my glasses than to get it cleaned up and patched, they were pretty whopperjawed. PPE all the way...


    Nice tractor CNE deer, that one's a few years newer than my '59

    Helmets feel heavy & are hot sometimes, but mines saved my skull & face a few times, though some would argue the face isn't worth it. :D

    With all the adventures I lived through, I really never expected to make it to 30, but here I am, almost 60. I've lived in the woods all my life dropping trees and cutting wood, but never owned PPE till a few years ago. I'm always very careful when dropping the bigger stuff, around or under hangers, or when kids are around, all work stops at that point, too many distractions. I just got a little lax working on the "small" stuff. There was a lot of grapevine holding a clump of small dead trees together and that was probably the cause of the drop.

    It doesn't take any size at all to a stick, to make it really hurt (or worse), when it falls out of a tree & lands on an unprotected head. I've gotten really leery about standing dead stuff. Even live stuff can have an odd dead limb on it.

    Glad it wasn't worse.
