pique someone's interest......SisIL will be getting some firewood from some mutual friends who plan to replace their stove with a pellet stove soon, and we had a discussion about dry firewood. Her comment was "you mean seasoned?". Nope, I meant DRY.
Anyway, I suggested we go get as much as she can afford, because I know that what they get is usually Oak. Then it also dawned on me that they don't tend to use truly DRY firewood, so I suggested we do a swap for an equal amount of some of my pretty dry Ash. We'll see how this goes, but I've only got about a cord of Oak left (it's in the shed for this year), and plenty of wood for the next couple years too, so I'll have plenty of time to get the Oak dry.
We'll need to cut down the Ash to fit in her 13, but that won't be too tough.
I may have also talked her into getting an electric splitter. We'll see if that happens too.

Oh yes. amateur cutter does have some big ones hanging around. He mostly uses them for exercise but figures he may as well burn some too.

She finally pulled her trailer out of the snow and drove up to their place for a load. Not quite a 1/3 cord mix of Beech, Ash, and some Oak.
Didn't look too bad, but I doubt it's dry enough. She took it home.
She plans to get more.

In lieu of getting firewood from her via our friends, I've been out cutting up the last of the Boxelder. That's all done.
I've now got all but one of the Cherry logs bucked (never burned it before), then I'll be into what looks like Red Pine. When that's done, I can start working on the Poplar at that end of the log pile. This is all very weather dependent, and we'll be gone for Christmas (SisIL watching the place for us), soooo....... I hope to jump back into it when we return.
I really need to do something about the B&C though. It's been almost impossible to keep the chain tensioned correctly, and there's no more adjustment left. Might be time to have the local guy pull a drive link.
Anywho, I'll try to post a couple pics later when the rain stops.
Yep.....for all the good it does....which isn't much, it seems.

You'll like that cherry. It splits easy, dries fast and smells good when you burn it. It does seem to leave a good bit of ash (or at least it did for me) though. It's great for early or late in the season as it's not the highest on the btu chart.
