Tractor 3pt Winch

Igland/Norse are the same manufacturer .
I have a Nores 180 for my MF1020 , a Igland 4001 on my Yammy 336d , a no name Scandi built hydro 3pt .
I have some good friends with 3 Farmi's , an uncle and a brother with Farmi's .
I followed a good and detailed thread from a fella from Norway that rebuilt a worn out Fransguard and have read many treads from guys that have used Wallenstiens .
I think Chipper has a Uniforest .
I don't think there's one out there except a Chinese one that I wouldn't buy .
Get one from the closest source you're happiest to deal with .
If I was to buy a new one the dealer that I'm happiest with carries the KGD line of winches from Austria so that's polly what I'd get .

 

I run 3 chain slides plus the tail hook on mine , don't cheap out on chain , it's a waste of time so negotiate the chain chokers in the purchase .
I'm buying grade 100 chain now , i've not broken any of them lol

 

Just remember straight pulls up the hills. I had mine at a slight angle and catch a few years ago tipped my tractor over was not a good day firewooding. It was like watching in slow motion as it went over. . Now I have a Self -Releasing Snatch Block to help with the directional pulls.

 

I am not really sure who the dealers are in my area. Never seen a 3 pt winch before until i googled it lol. Thanks for the input and i will negotiate some chokers!

Lots of uphill, side hill, down hill, around bends with pulleys etc. very happy with performance and no issues. It has limits, but it is not a 300 hp skidder right.

 

I have a couple of regular blocks and one of these



I have made a skidcone from a 45 gallon plastic barrel and a friend has one that they made from a 200 gallon oil tank .
Another friend of mine has a skid cone from PortaWinch .
All handy tools .

 

That's the one works great. I need to look into the skid cone.

 

So I called around some and got the following prices:
Farmi 351 for $4300
Wallenstein FX85 for $4000
Norse 350 for $2700
Uniforest 35M for $3000
Tajfun EGV35A for $3200

Not sure what to do, but thinking i might go with the Uniforest? Anybody have any more thoughts?

 

I’ve only used one winch, so take this with a grain of salt, and those with more experience will chime in.

I think you will find the height of the top pulley an important feature when winching in a log on rough ground. Taller is better.

The width of the butt plate is important when skidding multiple stems going downhill.

(Edit: not suggesting this is a $1300 difference, especially if this is just for your own firewood consumption. )

 

Decisions decisions.

 

The Norse has a hinged butt plate .
Sure is nice when driving in the rough or over stumps .
Less chance of making sparks with your chainsaw when you get hung up on a stump ,,, don't ask how I know lol

 

I am looking at these also. There are some hud-son dealers in Ohio and one just north of Chicago. I’m close to pulling the trigger on their 35m model. I have a 33hp tractor

If you pick one up before i do, post some pictures of it. I would like to see some better pics of these things. So hard to figure out what you want without seeing them in person.

 

Will do. I’ve not been around one myself. Never had heard of such a thing till I got on this forum. I built a little skidder for my 3 point and was proud of it till I saw these things!

Looks good! Yeah i built something similar myself but was having problems getting the tractor to some of the trees i was cutting down. No flat spots on my southern IN patch of land.

 

Same here, I cut a good sized ash last weekend and it had to fall in a bottom with a spring running out of it. I was 5 hours getting that wood drug out with straps and snatch block. I love working in the woods but part of the reward is being productive for me. From what I’ve read these winches would last me the rest of my life.
