    Beautiful day.
Stacked 2 bucket loads of the splits I bought. About got stuck on the 2nd load. Ground to soft. Loaded the third bucket full and then decided not to press my luck. I will unload the bucket in the morning when the ground is frozen. Pile is about finished and should finish out at about 2 3/4 cords.
Got a little trigger time in today. Felt real good. I hadn't ran a saw since Walt's GTG in Oct. Limbed and cut in half a tree that I had fell earlier in the fall. Skidded it up to the house for bucking.
I am anxious to get to bucking and splitting tomorrow. I may fell the other half of that Black Locus and/or some dead Ash the need to come down, but is in some low ground.

Well, I did go in back to skid out some logs and I did take the camera. However, I could not take a picture as I forgot to put the card in the camera... Some days go like that. But boy oh boy am I ever sore now. I cut this morning for a little bit then skidded some logs. Getting off and on the tractor along with all the bending to hook the chain on got to me. Now I'm soaking up some heat on my back and sipping on a nice tasty drink...and it is not water.

I'm great with numbers/math. This boggles me. Feel inadequate. IMG_20181218_155713895.jpg
Idk, think rows of dominoes are wrong? Should be 1st and second, not 1st and third? Still pondering the step up in blue on the bottom :picard:

No Doubt!! Grade 2. I *might * have a grip on the difference between doubles and make 10 for the bottom section

Math has not been a frequent homework item with this teacher. Interesting.....

I did not get to the broken bulb today, but kicked some azz w laundry and kitchen.

I've got a better idea about the new nonsensical math.

Count on making it a double. Times that by ten.

Yes, WWW and I were teaching stack addition
    2
    +2
    ---
    4

    We were asked not to.

Just weird, I'm the same age as many of her teachers own parents. I did not grow up with this math. Learning curve. But I do not appreciate the rush because her entire class is behind, puts us in a bind too.

I remember working with my eldest daughter in the late '80s on fractions. I couldn't begin to figure out what the book was attempting how to show the process and I am very good in math. The lesson was, what is bigger 1/4 or 1/2. Every time she would choose 1/4. "Why?" "4 is bigger than 2."
Explained to her that it is the opposite in fractions. Couldn't get through to her head. I couldn't understand her problem. It was very logical to me.
She was overweight and very fond of her sweets. I asked her again which was bigger 1/4 or 1/2? Again her answer was "1/4".
So I got out 2 candy bars and cut one in half and the other in fourths. "Which piece do you want?" She choose the half. Why? It is bigger. I handed her the 1/4 piece and started to eat the 1/2 piece. "That's not fair Your piece is bigger." You just told me 1/4 is bigger than a half. Count them. This bar has four pieces, 1/4 of the bar, and you told me that 1/4 is bigger than 1/2. So here is your 1/4 of a candy bar. I believe that got through to her.
There was another go around and I can not recall the details, but I couldn't even begin to understand how the book was telling them to solve the problem. Finally showed her the old fashion way. That was new math. I figure they probably have new new new math now. No wonder the kids can't add and subtract now a days.
My youngest son, now 38, got a job at the local Dairyette when he was 15. The proprietor was amazed that he could count change the old fashion way.
For those of you that don't know the old fashion way. If the bill was $3.85 and the customer handed him a five. You would get a nickel, a dime and a one dollar bill. You would say. $3.85 and five makes $3.90, 10 makes $4 and one makes five. No math involved and you didn't need the register to get the change correct.
Get use to it wildwest and I don't envy you at all.

Thanks Marshel54 , for sure you're right. That said, I'll have to learn this "new math" right along with her to help her through/coach/correct. And yooperdave most of or all the pages she does at home here for homework are not checked by the teacher when the math book comes home for homework again. Idk.

Our kids struggled with the "new math" and we struggled to understand it and help them with homework. They know and use "old math" because it pretty simple.

Because of this, they had some less than great math grades at times. They know how to arrive at the answer, just not the way they "had" to re-learn it.

There were lots of parents voicing their opinions to teachers.

Only 1 domino - the first one. (as the direction say - circle the domino - not plural)

I have no idea what those terms are - but think I got the gist for the count on.

And seriously, let's not give them a test on actually doing the addition, but on what is the "right" strategy to solve it?

It's sad how many kids cant even count these days. I stopped for lunch at an inner city fast.food establishment once. Say the bill came to $7.30. I gave her a $10 and she punched it into the register to tell her how much to give me back. I then remembered my already large amount of change in my pocket, and pulled out 30ncents......mind blown she stuttered and stammered for a minute trying to figure it out before turning around and asking "is anyone good at math?" I told her.....just give me $3 back. She was unsure, the. Said ok I guess I'll have to trust you.

I've had others where they wont say anything, just hand back the change I gave them along with the exact change from the transaction.
