Big time Echo fan here. My personal experience is that they set their saws to lean out of the box though. Oh and welcome to this friendly place !

Skip is chain that skips cutters every other link. Some say it cuts faster. It doesn't, it just clears chips faster, and creates less drag so the saw doesn't over work. Echo says you can run a 24" on the website so you can run full comp (full compliment of cutting teeth) too, I just would stay with skip. The best advantage for me with skip is the there are less teeth to file when sharpening so you save time.

Welcome Michael Fesler and good choice! I really like my CS490, and my other saw is a MS180C. You’re gonna love the Echo.

    Welcome to FHC Michael Fesler
Great first post. I think you will be much more satisfied with your new Echo than you wood have been with a plastic case home-owner grade (insert favorite brand here). Way back when, I wish I wood have had the forums to save me from that very thing. My first ever brand new saw purchase was a the plastic variety and after a couple cords I realized it just wasn't what I needed in a saw. Sold it for a loss and stepped up to the real deal. So we spent your money but ended up saving you money in the long run.

    Keep them pics coming!

Actually, no. I bought it a few days after a small surgery, and I didn’t bounce back as fast as I thought I would. I finally unloaded a trailer load of white oak last night I need to split. I’m hoping to get out and cut some more Sunday, but, we’ll see. My sister and brother in law are building a new house and there are a bunch of nice white oaks that they pushed down in May. I cut this pile two Sundays ago with my little 14” MS180C. That’s when the wife understood why I said my saw was too small. Lol The worst part is that it’s about and hour and a half drive each way.

I'd drive that for white oak of significant quantities. Id rent a dump trailer and or dump truck to move as much as I could in as little time for the distance though.

Good saws i ran my 590 for about five year's
    No problems at all.
Do your saw a favor and put a o ring
Under the air filter on the intake.
It will stop fines from entering the engine.
Some use grease but it's messy.
I ran a 24 often pulled and oiled it great in hardwood.
The echos have an odd dl count
70dl instead of the common 72 for husky etc.
Keep that in mind when you buy chain's/bars
    Welcome to the site.

Renting a trailer, or truck, is a good idea, then just plan on spending a whole day. I got one rick split tonight and it looks like there’s one and a half more. There are PLENTY of them down.
