I love burning nubbins! I recently scrounged another metal dog crate, so that's where they will go, after getting chopped a bit.

Cut to length and stack is the way I go. I'll split a few morning hours, during the winter months. Out in the cold, no lower than 15f with no wind is ideal, imo. Just need to have a place to stack the splits as I go.

That's the next thing I need to make, some empty stacking arrangement. I'm thinking pallets and t- posts this time, behind the pool.

I have decided to invest heavily in firewood futures in the Southern New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts area. There is a rumor going around that Midwinter might be acquiring a trailer. If this indeed happens She will be able to transport wood so efficiently that I foresee a 100 mile radius around Nashua NH that is scoured free of scroungeable firewood. Small time firewood users all over the area will be forced to purchase wood due to a firewood famine within a half days ride of Nashua. This will of course drive up the price of boughten firewood. This is a tremendous investment opportunity. Remember; You heard it first right here at FHC!

In our neck of the woods a galvanized trailer is really worth the extra money. I have one I bought about 20 years ago that’s still in good shape, but my brother bought the exact same one in painted steel for $100 less and now it’s all rusted out and looks like crap. He doesn’t trust it anymore either. I’ve put tires on mine a couple times and repacked the bearings once so far.

I picked up some cherry this morning that looks pretty dry. IMG_20181218_5766.jpg

Great score! I’m thinking you didn’t have much competition this morning?

No, not many people there. Evidently the city workers are still out cutting.

If the wind is blowing like it is here I hope not. If so I’m glad it’s not me, and I feel for them.

Midwinter This is my favorite condition to find cherry in. Fully petrified with no bark or sap wood left, just pure BTU's!
This was one of last years scores. It wasn't big, but the stuff burned hot for hours and hours. Your latest scrounge reminded me of it because it's getting to that point of being mostly heart wood with decaying sap wood layer.

That looks like great wood! I guess you burned it all up? I'll cut this up tomorrow or Thursday, too windy today. I'll be curious to see what the mc is.
