Hey everybody, i am in the market for a 3 point tractor winch. Trying to decide what size and brand i want. Tractor is a JD 3039R. I am looking at the Farmi 351 and wallenstein FX85, but not sure if thats the right size for my tractor or not. I dont think that i have a dealer for either close by, so i dont think thats going to drive my decision. Anybody have any experience with tractor winches? Farmi 351 Wallenstein
Drooling over here! I'd love to get my hands on either of those. As I've said before, Implement Envy IS a thing.
I have a Norse 350 on my 3038E. Well matched combo if you ask me. It has worked well and has been trouble free. Bought it through Labonville or Baileys I think.
Thinking back, I can’t recall reading much for complaints over the years on the major brands of 3pt logging winches. I think you will be happy, regardless. I’ve been skidding 10 to 15 cord a year for the past 10 years using an secondhand old Farmi that I paid $900 for, and the only expense since has been grease. If I were rich I would go for remote control, as I am often walking back out to free a log stuck on a stump.
That's a real deal! As for the stumps, if you don't have a skidding nose cone. Take a 30 gal plastic drum, cut it in 1/2 & put a hole in the center for your choker, slip it over the nose of the log. Makes a big difference in how the pull through the brush & stumps.
I had a Farmi 501 for about 10/12 years. Skid a lot of timber and firewood with it. We used it in small jobs where transporting a 12 ton skidder in didn't make sense . Sold it a few years ago for almost as much as I paid for it. Think I lost $300 on it. Great reliable low maintenance units.
I think I'd lean toward the size that walt has. 3500-4500# Range. That's a pretty good pull & that tractor should handle that well. I've got a 12K Mile Marker Hydraulic fabbed up to a King Cutter back blade on my M. That thing will pull the tractor backward in gear with the blade down. PTO winch was an option, but I had a good used "bought" on CL & it got sold out from under me. I love my setup, but it wasn't cheap.
I have a Fransgard V-2800 on my L305DT Kubota No Complaints. I added a receiver so I could pull my trailer.
Wow looks muddy!! Have you pulled any logs up slopes yet with that winch? That will be most of what i want to do as I have some trees to cut in some ravines and cant drive down in them.
That's where winches shine Spencer . Take the cable/rope to the log while walking downhill, hook up & let the machine do the work. Longest pull on mine so far was 250' up a steep hill through the brush. Nice Ash log that would've gone to waste because nobody would have gotten it out in pieces by hand. 55' of log 26" at the base in one pull with a second hook to remove the bull rope.
