I close off primary air slowly once it's to temp and can engage the cat.

It dampers off quick with just 1/2 primary cutback, but secondaries taper off shortly thereafter.

After a while, gasses build up and it flares. Spooks the dog.
    She be like..
    :jaw: and :BrianK:

If we open up primary air again it settles back.

    Draft issues?

4 more days of work this year. Woot.

Got a ton of things crossed off the list this weekend. About to sit down and have a beverage and watch a little football.

My main stove here is a Cat stove. A big steel 3.5cuft High Valley stove . Has dual cats in it. I get about 3 seasons out of a set. I don't see how so many people get 5 or 7 years out of them....only thing I think of is you don't cram as much wood in your stove a season as I do. When I did the math out on ru. Time the life of them when uou burn 24/7 for 5 months or so like I usually do it works out. And yeS I season my wood. It's usually 3 years old split and stacked when I burn it.

I've never experienced that part, but I could totally understand your standpoint.

In my experience, I walk in knowing what my trade is worth, what the car I'm buying will sell for, and that my credit is fantastic. They say no way that's gonna happen. So I say fine, I'm already driving the same car just a lower trim level, and it's only two years old. Have a nice day.

So suddenly they might be able to try and get close. After an hour of BS, I bought the car for the deal I proposed when I first walked in.

It wasnt a gouge on either the trade value, or purchase price, but very fair for me.

Similar story on my wifes SUV when I bought that too.

I'm on call 12/31, but don't plan on doing anything other than checking email every once in a while and answering the bat phone if it rings.

There's not much I can do that week. All the people I deal with are out of office and operations is full tilt...no installs or design reviews.

Yeah, that whole back n forth thing with the sales manager is BS, no doubt...always hated that, feels a whole lot like "monkey in the middle" to the salesperson!

Yeah, when I bought my wifes Kia Sorento I sent an offer via their website, and they accepted it. Drove an hour there, as it was the only place that had the color combo she wanted and they say that it's not the same car I sent the offer on. So I tell.em the same thing, OK, have a nice day and we get up. Hours later we finally drive off with it for the price I wanted.

They sucked so bad that once they finally got up to get the paperwork, my wife says "wanna just leave on principle?" Had there been another of the same SUV in New England, I might have considered it they were so slimy through the whole process.

    Lucky bastard!

Everyone I deal with works from home offices when not on the road, same as me. So if orders or RFQ's are rolling in, they're gonna be on it. This is the end of our quarter too, so I need to get things in because my numbers are still off YTD.

I've been told they can't change tires on a new vehicle by law (I wanted AT's on an SUV). I ask for the statute #, they hemmed and hawed. I never asked for a lower price on the vehicle, I didn't ask for anything extra, I accepted their offered trade in price (should have kept that 4-runner instead of buying the Nissan!). I just didn't want to have to pay another $800 for tires on a brand new vehicle. I finally walked. they called me 2 days later and somehow figured out how they could change to AT tires on the very vehicle I was looking at. I went to sign papers and pick up the vehicle. Then they wanted to know when my husband would be looking at it for approval before I signed and drove. Um, no, he's not driving the dang thing, just me. He could care less since I AM THE ONE PAYING FOR IT (no, his name wasn't on the loan and I never gave any income other than mine - I have excellent credit). They had a hard time believing me - and this was in 2005 - not 1980!

Just one of the stories I have.

Lol cant change tires by law eh?

I walked out the door on a used truck deal once. They had a stupid low miles F-250 diesel, but wouldn't budge on their high price. I REALLY wanted that truck, but no way at their number. As I got up they told me it was gonna sell fast! I laughed and told them not at that number! 2-3 weeks later they called me back, so I mocked them asking how come it didnt sell yet? I got it for my number, plus the cost of the new tires and brakes they had put on it in between. (After beating them up on those stupid dealer prices too)

Having caffeine and breakfast with my father this morning. Then, after my Mother gets up, I will go back home and get to work on a trail. All you hoarders have a great day and have some kind of fun.

Could be draft issues. Could be temp inversion outdoors. What's the temp outside when this is going on? We usually get back drafts when the temp is around 0ºC. Also, the cat chamber needs to be cleaned out once a year. Took us a long time to figure that out for the Harman Oakwood series wood stove we have. There's a really long blog post with pictures, videos and conversation with other stove owners on our web site if you are interested Our Harman Fireplace Wood Stove goes BOOM!

Holding off from the coffee this morning as we are supposed to make a menards run and I'll hit a shop on the way down for a coffee/cappuccino combination.

Its nice having the option of choosing a weekday vs. weekend day to avoid the crowds...........

Yeah, that's a load of crap...being near Akron Ohio "rubber capitol of the world" we had Firestone/Goodyear/General employees as customers all the time. Whenever they bought a new car that came through with the "wrong" tires on it, we changed 'em, no big deal at all

Chaz the IS poof.. Yup seen it:D
If you turn air up it goes away. But if you turn air down just a touch. The violence of poor goes down and you get the mysterious dancing ghost flames. Which besides being just pretty, I always thought meant stove is running efficient.
