I normally cut on my property and on the farm next to my place so I haven't gone on a scrounge in a long time. But today I heard a saw running and went looking. The neighbor is having a garage built and and he had a service remove a couple of trees that were in the way. I knocked on the door and he gave me one of 2 trees. I got the hackberry. It's not bad wood and certainly worth the effort of cutting and moving a half mile to my place for splitting and stacking. The service limbed and chipped the small stuff and left me the rest. I had to do a lot of noodling to be able to get the big rounds on my truck.
I love Hackberry. It's a wood that needs to be split asap or it rots in the round quick, but burns hot and just as long as Cherry
Nice job and it's always nice when it's real close. I love those targets of opportunity that pop up close to home!
That is the best. After having to deal with the branches from my Ash I took down, I forgot how bad they can be. I do most of my cutting in the woods and it's nowhere near the issue that branches in your years tree are. I still have most of the branches to either chip or burn. Ugg
I hear ya, when we log in our yard, we end up with massive piles of branches piled all around the fire pit to burn up before the grass starts to grow. A good excuse to crack a cold one or two while throwing them on to the blaze.
