After being out of town on business trips for three weeks I was finally home long enough to get out with the family and do some fishing. Luckily things are starting to heat up fishing wise.

This was the first one of the evening I cast a rubber gulp worm over the top of a downed pine tree that was in the water and on the second cast this guy hammered it!

I tried a few more times with that worm and was unsuccesful so I switched to a mini minnow crank bait and had a little 6" bass try to swallow it. The lure was almost bigger than he was lol. After that I tied on a chartreuse lizard and started working it over tree branches and after about 10 minutes I was dragging it over a tree branch and had this guy hammer it hard.

I then proceeded to hook up with a monster bass pulling the lizard through the weeds but I lost him when he got tangled up and threw the hook. Made a few more casts and had a few nibbles but it was just gills tugging on things.

As the sun started to set and it was about dusk I tied on a buzzbait (which I have never used before) and made a couple of casts. On about the third one the water looked like it exploded and huge Bass came flying out of the water. I set the hook and the fight was one big time. Got it clear back to the bank and again he was thrashing in the weeds and got hung up just out reach I was trying to drag him through and lost him. Really disappointing as he looked like a monster.

Made a few more casts and had another bass blow up all over it. Came up from behind and slammed it hard. Performed some acrobatics and I landed him. He wasn't huge but holy crap was that a rush

I have never used a topwater bait before but that was easily the most exciting thing I have ever witnessed and I want to do it again :D. All in all nothing huge was landed but I still had a blast and it was a good afternoon.

Also took my daughter blue gill fishing earlier in the morning and she landed about 20 in under an hour so she got to have some fun! She even baits her own hook and does everything but take the fish off.

Man is it nice to finally be back home after 3 weeks on the road for work. Hit the local lake on the way back from work tonight and landed 5 decent size crappie in under an hour.

The fishing is finally starting to heat up!

Looks like a good time to me. I have yet to throw a line in the water this year, I need to get on it!

Crappies are fun fishing at dusk when they are extremely active. Sometimes they don't wait for the lure to hit the water. :bug: I know of one lake where at certain times/places I could pull a fish every cast. :D
