There's a local Amish guy who uses Percherons for logging. They are gigantic and pull way more than you would think.
I would have thunk they would need at least 4 horses - wow! That being said, I was wondering why they didn't get them into the snow where the purchase would probably be better than the iced drive. I'm pretty sure they had "cleats" on, but it seemed as if they didn't start really making headway until they diverted over into the snow. But, it's easy to be an armchair chariot driver
bogieb WOW I haven't heard any one use the word 'purchase' like you did since my dad used it. He died back in 1989. Thanks for bringing up some good memories
I must admit, haven't used it like that in a while, but seemed to be the right words for the circumstances. Glad I could bring a smile.
We had some amish come log the farm about 10 years ago. If I remember right there was a foot or two of snow on the ground. For those that have never been to central PA the only areas that aren't farm fields are the hill sides. It was amazing where those horses could get around and work. Places you wouldn't even think of taking a skidder were no problem.
I get odd looks when talking about getting a good purchase on a pistol's grip. Of course it sounds silly to say get a good grip on that grip though, doesn't it?
