Some good advice here! I really like those Wyze cams. My buddy has one and says it works very well. I think he just picked up a few more.

I have 4 Foscam 8910 cameras; two in CT, two in VT. They are indoor cameras, but I have three mounted outside. They're under overhangs, so they are protected from the weather...somewhat. My oldest one has been outside for 6 years now and it's chugging along just fine. I think they still sell the 8910, but there are better options out there now in terms of setup, resolution and notifications.

My buddy in Vermont has a Nest outdoor camera that I helped him setup. It's a really nice cam. You need a decent internet setup to watch it live and access the recordings. You also get charged for cloud storage. Nest has a bunch of plans you pay for monthly. The audio on the camera is really good. I've seen clips where he can hear people talking who pull into his driveway when he's not up there. He and I will have regular conversions through the camera when I head over to shovel off his deck when they aren't up there. I believe that cam goes for $199.

One thing to be mindful if is where you mount the cam. If you mount it behind a window, the IR (night vision) won't work. It'll reflect off the window and washout the image. You'll have to rely on outside lighting. Mounted outside, the IR will work great.

Most of these cams will need a source of power, so there's that to consider as well. But if you are mounting on your house or outbuilding, probably not as much of an issue.

For me, I'll most likely go with Wyze route. Right now, I'm leaning towards their tilt/pan cam which is a few bucks more than the standard cam. But I'm also curious to see what they come out with for an outdoor cam.

That's good vision considering you have the IRs blocked off. I take it there's no way to manually disable the IR through the Wyze app?

Seems like it should be fairly simple. Then again, I'm no coder!

Hey everyone, sorry it's been a crazy week! I talked to the neighbor, he said the one they got was the Arlo, and he thought I should have no issues covering both sides of the turn around. I talked to him yesterday, and since this post, the mother in law was over helping watch the baby girl, and she woke up at 5 (her normal) and saw a car parked down by the corner of our driveway/easement and the end of the dead end, said she was watching it for a minute and it started pulling up our driveway, she stepped out into the window, the vehicle stopped, backed up and left. If that doesn't have suspicious written all over it I don't know what does. So yes, there is no debate on getting a camera. Just need to take a minute in the morning and look at what everyone has suggested. We spent the day out of town today and I had the neighbor and a friend stop by to check the place out and let the dogs out.
I guess the Arlo they got is wireless and works great. Easy to mount, weatherproof, and as far as charging, they pull it off the mount once a month and charge it for 2 hours and it's good to go.
Again, thank you for all input! It'll be Monday or Tuesday before I buy so any other suggestions you have would help!

I've picked up two Wyze cams and have on in CT facing out a window and one in VT mounted outside(but covered by an overhang). Both cameras are Wyze pan cams.

So far, so good! Really like the motion detection. I have a 32 gig SD card in each and have each recording to the SD card in standard def. The motion alerts are working nicely. Quite an upgrade from my old Foscams.

Good news , the beta app I'm running there is an option to disable the IR lights in the Wyze app , works great, Eliminates the glare Through a window ,.
The v2 I have outside Has been working fine since the summer Even with the Below zero temperatures.

I did HDRock ! Great use of that feature! I'm hoping that they have an update that allows you to do a time lapse from past video stored on the SD card. I guess that's not currently an option.

I'm really impressed with these cameras. I'm into each one for about $50 delivered; camera, mount and 32gig SD card. The motion notifications are awesome. It was neat to get a notification when the driveway in VT was plowed, each time the town plow went by and when the grader came by with the wing plow. More often than not, I don't have to view the actual clip. I can see enough in the preview to know what it is: "Neighbor drove by...no biggie".

Looking forward to that IR feature going public. I'll definitely be using that for my CT came that's behind a window. I'm thinking of getting a separate IR light for the VT camera. When our outside light goes out, it's hard to see much due to the lack of light out there. The IRs on the cam aren't super powerful for outside use. Which makes since because it's an indoor camera.

Heard Wyze just receive $20M in venture capital funding. I'm sure things will only get better!

Yeah they are working on being able to view Multiple cameras ,Up to 4 cameras at once and working on Outdoor waterproof camera .
I live at the end of a dead end street So I don't get Alerts from Traffic or anything but I do when someone comes down here in front of my house , the front Cam is inside Against the window, I have one outside For the side yard ,some other ones inside .
You should pick yourself up a v2 ,Pretty versatile and the view is wide enough for Most Places

They were talking about Making that happen but I don't know if they're going to or not

I'm thinking of getting a v2 and mounting it outside under our lower overhang on our raised ranch. It would be very protected from the elements. And would provide a good view of anyone coming to the front door.

Looking forward to seeing what they produce for an outdoor cam!

I have a Blink XT covering my front porch, It does a good job , Battery's don't last 2 years though ,I wouldn't want them up somewhere where they are hard to get to unless I used the plug in power option .
I think that is basically what the wyze outdoor Cams will be, Battery powered with option to Power with USB
