Mornin' hoarders! So I think I left my brain at work yesterday cuz I did something stupid. I loaded up the stove yesterday evening and forgot to close the damper. I went outside for a while and my my wife and I got to talking. After a while I glanced through the window and noticed the raging inferno in my firebox. I ran in and closed the damper and let the fire die out overnight. My thermometer to buried all the way. My stove is a Regency F2400 efficiency stove. I didnt notice any damage but I was wondering if y'all had any advice for Captian Moron here. Anything to check for or things of that nature would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all! Congratulations and welcome to the club! Just give her a good looking over, then take a good look at the stove. These things are designed for such things, as long as you didn't let it go for hours and hours, it's probably just fine.
Hard to say. The needle only goes to 800. Probably about a half hour. Nothing seems warped and it wasn't red or anything. The baffles look normal and the stove pipe doesn't look warped. Outside I did notice some flakes of creosote on the ground but I've only had about 2 months on the clean. I might just be being paranoid. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
It's probably good for the flue to get a good hot shot from time to time, assuming there's no significant creasote buildup. Clean out the old pipes, as the saying goes.
check for warped. give the baffle a good eyeball. if you're lucky it got hot but not too hot. I found the door latched open on our stove a couple times . Ate a load of wood pretty quick. Latching it and pulling on it has become a habit. You could set up a high limit alarm if you think you might do it again.
Oh shoot I have done that. I thought you were going to say you got married three times like I have!! Now that is "doing something stupid!" I did that once on an old Vogelzang woodstove. Katie and I came back from a date with no kids, and so while out to diner the stove had died down. I got the coal lit again by opening the door, and went into the bedroom for a bit. We won't get into details on that, but when I came out again into the living room, the entire pot bellied stove, except for the door, was glowing red.
Every one does it once. You freak out, you learn. I did not even pay the overfiring language in the manual any thought until it happened. Went past 900 and stayed there for a long time with air closed entirely. Stove was fine afterwards but I was freaking out watching that solid block of raging yellow covering the door glass and listening to all the submarine at crush depth sounds it was making.
Thanks everyone for the replies. Been burnin' all day and the house is still standing so I think I'm good. Hoarders rule! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
HA! No I found me a winner so the wife checkbox is checked. Now if I could just figure out this independently wealthy thing... Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk
I have done the same thing with my stove before...scary to be sure! I think most people have done this, but few of us admit it.
I have not yet but i have only had mine stove for just over a month so i still have time lol Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk
Happens to everyone eventually. A good stove should handle it. EPA stoves are a little more fragile. Non EPA stoves had a lot of dirty chimneys and that where the real danger comes from.
