20 outside, 70 inside. Getting ready for a load of hickory and locust, racked the coals from last night's load about 45 min. ago. 20's today and teens tonight. Happy Saturday FHC......
16 here and it’s 74 inside. Red oak and hard maple burning HOT!!! Warm up on the way from what they say . Going to get a load of locust brought to the house and fill a couple more totes today. Have a good one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
16F this morning. Loaded the stove at 6:00 AM and 'kicked it in the pants'- sustaining stove top temps. of 650F, which is either a new level or one rarely reached before and I do not remember it. Stove is chugging some serious BTU's. I do not even need that much heat, house was 73F this morning, I just wanted to get the new load of fuel engaged and putting out pretty well rather than letting it take its own time to come up to a useful output and letting the house fall behind in temp. BTW- Flue gas temps. are just under 700F (internal temp.), absolutely excellent efficiency I think! Brian
OFFTOPIC: Yes, and the first anniversary when there will not be any survivors of the Arizona's crew on hand for the ceremony at Pearl Harbor. There are believed to be five living survivors, all well into their 90's of course, and none of them are up to the trip. Very sad IMO, we are seeing the end of 'the greatest generation' and it is hard for an old baby- boomer like me to watch this situation change so much in my own lifetime. When I was a kid, there were literally millions and millions of WWII veterans still pretty young, still in the workforce and a viable segment of the population. Sorry for branching offtopic, this is just hitting me surprisingly hard (no survivors at the memorial)- just because we all know it is coming does not mean anyone has to like it at all..... Brian
18 out 66 in. I fell a sleep early last night and forgot to fill the stove. Still got it going from coals. Better get after it before the woman folk get outta bed. Ash and Locust.
Warmer weather is on the way once again...8f this morning which means we're on the right side of "0"!
Sitting at 10 now, was 0 at 4 am when I let the pup out to do his business. House still at 71 when I just reloaded. Man the stove takes off nice at these temps. No half hour of babysitting! 5-10 minutes tops, loaded to set for the day. Gonna get the ice fishing stuff out and organized today. Get it ready for next weekend, probably could hit it this weekend but with the kids running around out there I just as soon be safe. I'll be getting the honey do list done this weekend to play next weekend!
Morning all. We have 13F at the moment. Im burning oil today. When Im not working in the shop I set the oil furnace on 45F to keep my finishes from freezing up. Is oil a bad word here?
Woke to 18F at about 6:15, not too bad. Put a full load of Oak in the boiler, decent stuff, but small splits last night. Went out to find 176 water temp & about 2/3 of the load still making heat. Could go 16hrs no problem. Shop doors stay closed at night & really change the heat load. 65 bedroom, 73 living area, & 70 in the shop. Can't ask for much more. Gonna go load some logs for a friend today.
Well, they say I'm older than dirt but I was not born yet (was born in 1942) so don't remember the bombing, but do remember the date.
Yes, he does have a neat setup there. Have to see it to appreciate it. ON top of that, he is a great guy!
Up to 27* now. House is sitting at 74* with ash in the insert. Ash, Ash, and more Ash. Then I have to go out and cut more white ash. All victims of EAB.
33* out, 74* in. Tulip poplar and a little locust. Forecast is for the storm of the century. (I'm not buyin' it.) Wife is wearing a little short sleeve t-shirt. Not since I don't have to buy it anymore.
