So, I was moving around my the green pine that was dropped in my yard. I have never cut any green pine before, so what is this Pitch going to do to my saw, splitter, clothes, etc? What's the best thing to clean this crap up with?
Gas or mayonnaise will clean it up well. The mayo thing through me off when I first heard it, Backwoods Savage mentioned it but it really does work to clean up pitch.
Hmm, I had some Spots on my hands that did not come off when I washed, A little later I put on some hand cream the pitch came off. I will have to try that again to see if that was, what was really on my hands
WD-40 cuts it pretty good too. I try to cut pine in the winter, a lot less pitch. Some pine smells real good though.
Aside from all the good pitch answers, your pine when split and stacked, should be ready to go this fall. I use it in combination as shoulder season wood
Diesel, kero.... Mineral spirits, etc all works. Thankfully the spruce we have here doesn't have much pitch, least none Ive cut. Had a few white pines (state flower) and firs at my folks, could have used that sap to glue near anything. It was like antisieze... Barely touch it and next thing you know its on everything (I bet the mechanics on here know what I'm talking about)
The mayo really does work! My wife looked at me like i was nuts the first time i came in a dumped a glob of mayo in my hands and started scrubbin
It will stay on clothes as funky looking stains too. I try to wear specific clothes that are near the end of usefulness. If you place it up and down instead of laying on its side the sap seems to collect more on the bottom as it dries. This is before spitting of course. If you get right to it it won't matter much.
