on the hills, I think we have a total of four Beech in all the pictures, I'm sure some will be good and some of the Beech will not be very good.

The first three pics (same beech) I can come in from the top but I'll need to roll the rounds down into the ravine, the pics after that I'll goat it up the hill with everything then roll the rounds down. Just call me Goatsie!
Beech certainly. Looks like the scale has infected your trees. Unfortunately diseased beech can be hit or miss and is usually a royal PITA to split. What is still solid is good heat none the less.
It seems like every tree has something after it. We burned some four year old Beech this past winter, boy was that nice.
almost lookin like Spring there...every one of my beech at the camp gets it too. Nothing worse than a tree with no timber value clogging a 1/4 acre of canopy. Some time when I have a week to spare, I need to go on a thinning spree.
I know we were talking about the bark virus the other day, is the same thing going on with the beech in these pics as well?
Beech seem to get hollow as they get big. Normal I think. I always looked for big beech during squirrel season. Make good squirrel dens & Gramps had one beech that had honey bees.
The part of the Beech that was down is off the hill, the worst part was rolling the rounds down the hill, it's all split and back home waiting for a place to open up for stacking. It might be 1/3 of a cord.
Glad I worked hard today, the boss had a 9 pound ham ready when I made my way home, with raisin sauce that's out of this world!
It was a good day for cutting, on flat ground would've made it perfect. I did find my next Beech on my way out of the ravine, hopefully this week.
I'll have that pic tonight if it's a Beech, even if it's not I'll have a pic. I noticed it when I was on my way out of the southwest end of the Ravine yesterday afternoon, I'll be coming in from the top this afternoon for a better look.

With all the ice still in the Great Lakes we'll be cold for sometime, I'm glad I covered another stack of wood. It's a combination of dead Elm & some nice Maple with some Beech. Have you been back in the woods at all?
