Whoa. Big time fine there! But they are appealing. They should have known better.

And here I was thinking that bagged, grocery store wood was expensive.

Maybe they could sell the firewood to offset the fine?

Sure is a big fine for something that had no impact on the species.
I'd like to know why they are considered endangered and what their range is in North America to put things in perspective.

Read the article, don't think 38 trees will make a difference,

Sounds like something the courts or government of Oregon would come up with

If you have bought lift tickets lately you will realize that is chump change for the resort.

I get pizzed reading these clowns complain about fewer skiers... Stop overcharging you aholes and we'd go far more often

Lower the price and get more skiers! Maybe the rich don’t want that?

Do endangered species of trees make better firewood? You'd become a true wood snob

There's plenty of places for them to ski away from the throbbing masses. I skied bachelor's gulch a few years ago and the off slope bathroom was both larger and more nicely finished than my house. Not two many real skiers there, but a lot of people posing as one.

There's a lesson to be learned here if you live in an area with 'endangered trees'. Don't just go cut them down...kill them first with some Triclopyr. I seriously doubt there is a penalty for cutting down dead trees? This would also work in localities where 'permits' are needed to cut trees as they become 'hazards' when dead standing.

Well, the fact still remains that they knew it was wrong and still did it. It matters not who does it, if it is wrong, then it is wrong.

Yes, an intelligent solution to the problem.

There are increasing infringements on the property rights of landowners in my area. Have to be creative to keep the freedoms that were once part of the American fabric.

Guess I just need to move out into the boonies.

Yes I agree. They knew it was wrong and did it anyways. You know it is ok for the little guy firewood cutter to obey all the rules, but a big resort thought that these rules must not apply to them or that the fine would be small enough to not make a difference. The Judge wanted to make a point and it sounds like they have.
