As I was getting ready, a deer walked up near the house. Figured I'd wait a few minutes but then, it bedded. So the wood can wait. Love seeing the deer.

We're the same way Dennis. 11 1/2 months of the year we like watching the deer. The water has changed around here over the years from farmers, so we see much less when there's no snow. But sure as the sun rises, every year we have at least one and sometimes two momma n fawn sets just across a narrow slough from the trailer.

Thats a nice rack on that blacktail. His coat looks a bit shaggy like he is just changing from summer to winter coat.

Earlier this year, still in velvet. Nice eye guards too. Just wish he would get his own subscription!

Eventually they'll mosey on. I need to get a cart load of better stuff ( elm at least) to go with the basswood I brought home from my wood lot stack.

I went out, got a rubbermaid tote full of basswood, and there in my fan stand ( chunky monkey silver maple) in with the basswood into the stove.

The deer are all still hanging out in my yard.

I'll get more gooder stuff later.

Around here they’re a pain in the a$$. We can’t grow much of anything without them eating it. We need a few bow hunters. I like to see them occasionally but it sucks to have to fence in the garden.

A good rifle and a hunting permit shouldnt be a big thing around your neck of the woods!

We have lots of firearm hunters but the houses are too close here for guns. It was the best deer harvest in the state for something like the past 20 years overall. The problem is in the southern part of the state the deer do really well in these heavily wooded suburban areas we live in. It’s mostly old farmland so it’s pretty productive and they thrive in an environment where it’s too close to hunt them. Then we have the people that feed them despite it being against the law and common sense. Another big issue we have is deer ticks and the highest incidence of Lyme disease in the country. So it’s a big health problem to boot.

Yeah houses/settlements and firearms dont go well together. Do they actually live in the suburban areas, or do they just cross into them for food? Is it whitetail youre talkin about? We dont have much lyme desease around here but in the south they got it alot... very unpleaseant thing it is.

They actually live in the suburban areas, and yes, they’re whitetail deer. I’ve seen some awful nice bucks prance down the road in broad daylight during hunting season. They don’t care, no pressure. They bed down in surprisingly small patches of woods. All it takes it for someone to ignore their couple acres for a few years and at least part of it’s a thicket. And there are larger blocks scattered amongst the housing developments. But we have several that live right behind a neighborhood across the road from me. One doe has twins every year and I’ve seen triplets a couple times in the 25 years we’ve been here.
