I've always had good success sharpening the chain from the right side in the bush but not the left, so I tried as much as possible, to do the sharpening at home in the vice and now I finally thought of a way to do it while out cutting wood!
I had a receiver tube welded under the splitter table and mounted a vice on the receiver.

Just a perfect height for filing.

Now I can get a good filing job on the left side.

When you're filed up, take the vice out and store it and go back having fun processing wood!

I always take spare loops of chain and when it gets slow, swap 'em out. I much prefer to file chain in my shop with a good tune on the radio, it's almost enjoyable.

It is nice to have a way to touch up a chain in the field, though. Especially when milling. I hate having to tear the saw out of the mill if it's just needing a touchup....

Real slick. Include a camp chair and you got real comfort while sharpening!

Fer sure on the mill. The mill holds the saw for that though, no need for a helper.
