Had an inch this morning and was snowing on my ride to work.Hwy 50 had a few slick spots, but 94 was just wet.
Warmed up to 44 today. Yard squishes when you walk now and more rain is in the way. Boiler is still bored...put a few uglies in there this evening. Going to be hard to keep it lit when we get into the 60s over the weekend.
Yeah, about an inch of snow here too. Roads were a little slick in spots. 31° now and silver maple and basswood in the quadrafire
28F here & no wind, beautiful night. Just loaded the boiler with some Silver Maple splits about 8:00. This twice a day stove tending is a real luxury compared to the old furnace! I had very cautiously hoped to use a bit less wood with the boiler, & it looks like I might have been right. I'm about where I was last year with usage, but been burning longer & temps have been much colder than last year. Rope that's a nice looking load of logs there. Gotta be getting tough to get done with the short days I bet.
About 25 headed for 40 today with low winds. Looks like a warm up for a few days with some cold rain on Sunday. Should be good for getting stuff done outside for a couple days at least. 77 in here and I just put a couple splits on the coals, one pine one beech. It’s so nice to have 400 STT 10 hours after a load.
30 Light mist of and on since yesterday. Making driveways slick. Supposed to warm up next 3 days sure hope it does . I still have things to put away for winter. We've had snow on the ground for about 3 weeks straight . Gonna be a long winter if it keeps on. Burning some 6 year seasoned wood. Been under cover for 4. The beech burns up like paper. Not ideal wood.
31 here and a dusting of snow.. Burning ash at night 3 split of pine during day.. Well Seasoned was your home designed for your snow loads?? I don't shovel roofs. If bad ice build up, throw some water softener salt up there and it melts.. My roofer told me.. you actually damage your roof more by shoveling it then if you left it alone. Of course my properties we're designed and built for a 3-foot snow loads with rain. P.S. I know more than one homeowner that put on a metal roof and when the snow came off they lost their deck because it wasn't attached correctly!
Looks like -5 C or 23 F at the moment, and should see it warm a few degrees later on. Might be a good day to give the chimney a scrub. Or BBQ. It could go either way.
That all depends upon how you use the shove. Yes, a roof can be damaged but if you know what you are doing... In some places it is almost a must to shovel the roofs. For example if you get 200" or more of snow, you most times will shovel the roof many times over the winter. Some will just do the overhangs but if the roof doesn't have much pitch, it can get deep and heavy up there. When we lived in the deep snow area, it was a weekly job usually December through March. Kids that lived in town used to hire out like they did for mowing lawns. Even ran ads in the paper.
Amazing. 36 outside. Only got down to 29 overnight. Feels great out there but sadly I can't be out there much. Sort of strained the back again this morning so can hardly walk right now. It will get better... I keep seeing where people are expecting 60's this weekend. Surely would live to have it here but will be happy if it gets into the 40's.
