From calling in my buddy the pro-more wood than I thought-A good thing! First and second trip-Oak, hickory and beech
Last trip down-3 Polar loads fills the 8’ bed pretty well til I add a headache rack-Still have probably a load from the tops left to get once I throw in this bonus locust spotted on the way down
Headed home and unloaded-ready to split-63 rounds of future heat...gave up the mornings hunt but got something accomplished trying to replenish the hoard-Leveled out the leaf springs pretty well on the 1 ton—Have a great day all-Believe I’ll splits a bit
Thank you TMACK , it certainly was-temps reached mid-50’s. Only regret is that no big bucks responded to the 261 grunt call...
Looks great Ashwatcher! It’s nice to have such generous friends! I wish you could send some of that weather our way.
Looks like a great day out there in the woods Ashwatcher . Hope your continuing to heal up, and feel OK after that day of working it. Still wishing you get to fill the freezer as well!
Thank you NH mountain man - I’m fine my friend, just high mileage-I passed a 5pt on Tues, a small 8 on Wed and saw Big Daddy before daylight on Thanksgiving-didnt see a deer opening day. Like I said, at least I accomplished something trying to get caught up. Hope you and yours are well and warm. Thought running the saw would bring them in, they’re still rutting here...I’ll hunt next Sat, last day of rifle and try again in muzzleloader in 3 wks
Good looking loads of wood, good luck on the deer hunting...we might get a chance to go again, our season goes out first part of January...
Nice work, your pro cutting buddy is keeping you busy and that’s gooder. Aside from hauling as you go, I can’t say I like the idea of handling those rounds more than necessary... right from the PU bed to horizontal would be the only way I could validate running the splitter like that. But hey, we do what seems fit.
Nice work my friend. I especially like those pictures of the atv and trailer in the woods. That one trail really reminds me of a place I used to deer hunt in northern MI. Very much alike but was probably colder in MI.
Hey my friend and vertical sympathizer,,,1) I had to use the truck that eve, and the next 2 days for hunting and at @12 mpg, didnt need to haul the extra 2000 lbs around and 2) I enjoy the workout and core strengthening that comes from it...Thats why you’re in my sig buddy...Hope this finds you and yours warm and well
Ahhh....almost heaven, my home state of West Virginia! Where are you gathering wood? Nice trails and nice woods! Back when I hunted in the Mountain State, late 60's - mid 70's, deer were rare unless you hunted in Hardy County or Greenbrier County and a couple of others.
Gathering wood on my farm which is in Lincoln Co. 45 minutes south of Charleston. I’m not far from the “Southern 4” counties where nothing but bow hunting is allowed so they grow them big. We have them big in my county now also. Same here on when I started hunting in the late 70’s-early 80’s-I went to Pocahontas County and it was tough-still remember seeing my first buck here like it was yesterday...in 1979-Hope you are well and warm Ralphie Boy
Warm and dry, thanks! As I remember there was some pretty good 'shine' that came out of Lincoln County.
