I was pretty excited to have the temps go below zero to harden up my skidding roads. Drainage is great as I am on a hill, but I want the ground to tighten up to prevent ruts in a few small spots. I wrecked a 8 ft section of road two years ago and it took a lot of rip rap with tile to fix it. Regardless it was 40 and raining today so I only made two runs. The first was a nice beech and the sevond a small hickory. Good day, but I got soaked.
At least you got 2 runs in. 40 deg and raining is much colder work than it seems. The getting wet, and wet tools, and seat, makes for a long day.
I'd rather work in 10 degrees & dry than 35-45 & rain. That weather is good for nothing. Mud is not your friend in the woods. Good you got a few logs up anyway. Same weather here today & tomorrow, then getting cold again.
Looks like I am going to stay out of the woods today. Ground is getting soft from snow melt! Probably stack up some logs and figure out the design on a heavy duty saw buck. Hope you all have a safe and productive day
Hold on Woodsnwoods as a snow is coming our way so you will probably get some too. That will be followed by cold. Too bad the cold doesn't come first though. We've had a couple days in the 40's so losing some frost.
