R.I.P. mint craft pro. Cause of death, American beech. Any recommendations for a new one? Thank you FHC!
This 44 year old who still has a mean swing, but poor eye sight (and yet refuses to wear glasses), uses a Vulcan half maul, half axe to split my wood. It has held up well to repeated misses. Generally my wife yells, "You got it surrounded Hon, now go for the kill".
Just run out & buy one of these, haven't broken a handle in years. If it was me I'd do the Fiskars. They work well & are very durable.
Thank you all for the advice. I ordered a Fiskars and it should be here on Monday. Also, I will eventually replace the handle of the broken one. I’m thinking hickory.
This brought back an old memory. I one time bought a new axe, took it home and on the third hit, all I had in my hand was the handle. I had never bought from this particular hardware so called him on the phone to make sure he'd stand behind it. Wow, what a tirade I got. So, I put said axe in vehicle and drove to hardware, fully prepared to put the axe handle where it rightly belonged. Well, when he saw the handle and that I had not missed even once, he calmed down and gave me a new axe. I then tore into his behind, but we'll leave the rest to your imagination. This happened about 44 years ago.
I have old mauls with broken handles too. I have overshot and hit the handle on my fiskars x25 I don't know how many times And it hasn't broke yet , but if it ever does I know they will send me a brand new one Free of charge.
I had to refit the head on a fiberglass handle. Nothing jb weld and e2000 epoxy and a spline won't fix..
