Switch to Xmas Season

For me, I don't listen to Xmas music and no decorations before I make that switch. Xmas shopping is fine as you need to buy things when you see them on sale.

Now my wife and daughters make that shift early in November, and will listen to the music in the car when I am not there. The girls start decorating their rooms, but the rest of the house is off limits until after Thanksgiving.

On our ride home from Thanksgiving dinner, the wife and girls really look forward to switching on the Xmas music with me in the car. It's a tradition that has been going on since they were old enough to remember. Tomorrow we'll go get the tree, and my daughters are decorating the house today.

I love Xmas, but I just don't want to be fed up with it by the time it gets here by starting in October when the Xmas music starts and the stores are starting to put up their Xmas displays.

 

Yesterday we had Thanksgiving with my family and today we are having Christmas with my wife’s family. If we could have Eater this Sunday it would be all over with!

pizzes me off when I hear Xmas music before aprox. Dec 5-10. If I hear it early then I'm not in the mood for Xmas=Grinch.
2-3 weeks of precelebration is plenty!
I'll often drive all day with the radio off or listen to talk radio just to avoid it till mid December !

Seeing the Christmas decorations out next to the Halloween decorations at the big box stores in October is a bit over the top.

 

Makes me feel bad for the Halloween deco's on clearance.

 

I won't even think about Christmas until after Thanksgiving!
I really hate that such a great celebration of the birth of Christ has turned into decorations and shopping and overspending!

Agreed. I get the background of it but there are too many out there that dont understand the true meaning of Christmas for me to call it Xmas.

 

Hey Woodwidow thanks for posting that.. Great to be educated although still Greek to me.

I try to be understanding of others feelings and a discussion here every year.. is what to put on Christmas cards. Merry Christmas or Happy holidays because many friends celebrate Hanukkah and 2 dear friends adopted children from Africa and celebrate Kwanzaa following traditions the children grew up with.
I don't have all the answers but I know those 2 little kids liked coming to my house and loved the heat of a roaring woodstove

 

X is also CHi or the first two letters of the name Chandris, the Greek family that started Celebrity Cruise Line when it was Chandris Cruises. You'll still find the X on the Chandris ship funnels on all their oil tankers and ships. If you are ever on an RCI or Celebrity cruise ship and are asked how you are finding the amenities or food THE proper response is X-cellent. It is what they X-pect.
