Question.... if Pine is cut small 3 inches x 16 inch splits... will it be fine to burn in a woodstove in one year? I split a SUV load today, would like to use for my kindling in Feb/March of next year.

Unfortunately it will be stacked somewhere with relatively little sun or wind ( I have my oak stacked in my best area waiting for 3 years).

If you're busting them down to 3" splits, I agree that it should be fine.

Perhaps leave extra gap spacing when you stack if it's in less than ideal conditions for drying.

    Don't forget to top cover.

I make my pine and fir splits much larger than that and they are well under 20% mc in a year.

Same here. This also keeps a load of pine from burning thru quickly by limiting the surface area.

Good old PIF. You should be good. Sun/wind the best ya can. You may consider leaving some in larger splits. Betcha find out you like burning it.

thanks everyone... I have some hemlock that will be 2 years old next year that I can't wait to try. I happen to be in a strange situation where I have 80% red oak ( I know - nice problem to have), but it is taking forever to season.
