Any advise now that you’ve been running for a little while? I ordered the 1800 I and having it installed on Tuesday. It’s my first insert always had just a fireplace before. Thanks

Hey Tony, hope you had a nice holiday! 1st off congrats on ordering your 1st insert, your gonna LOVE it!!

I was in the same boat, I only had a traditional FP and finally put the insert in. Now I have nothing to compare the Drolet with because this is my 1st stove/insert as well. But the comparisons to a traditional fireplace and an insert......well lets just say there really ain't any. Everything a traditional FP did, the insert does about 10x better and more efficient. You will use so much less wood to start off with, you can load that insert up and forget about it for hours on end. The amount of heat that thing kicks off is almost mind blowing compared to a FP, it exceeded my expectations of kicking off heat especially with the blower running.

As for the Drolet itself, I have zero complaints thus far! Its been rock solid, the blower has been rock solid as well. It's just a really nice insert and with a nice big viewing glass which my wife loves. Am still learning it but I have for sure learned a lot with running it and getting the hang of it. Most of that learning curve was just using dry wood. It does an very good job of heating my 2000 sq ft house. I never thought I'd get it to heat the upstairs but it does a great job and again exceeded my expectations. The heat it throws off just runs right up the stairs and if you leave the bedrooms doors open well it's just perfect for us so far as we like it colder upstairs for sleeping.

Looking forward to seeing some pics and hearing about your experiences with it. Any questions just let me know, enjoy!

So glad you are enjoying your Drolet insert. We have the Blackcomb stove and love it. This is our 5th season with it. Very efficient. My mom has mama Bear stove and we burn 1/4 the wood she does.

Yes the wife wasn’t a huge fan and didn’t understand the reason behind an insert. We were at my aunt and uncles house a few weeks ago and my uncle was light his up and I of course was sitting with him watching and the wife came over and sat down and was listening as he was explaining its operation. When we got home she says I can hardly wait to get ours in so she’s finally understanding what an insert does. Thank you for your response.

I'm surprised it took me this long to find this thread. I'm happy to hear that you got the insert installed and that your whole family, especially your wife, are enjoying it. On your original thread, I had to jump in and tell you why an insert was so much better than an open FP. I went through the same thing with my wife, in that she didn't understand how an insert could be better than a FP. Now a couple years into this insert, she puts a few splits on during the day to keep the fire choochin'.

What's funny is that right now, my blower fan is shot, and while we have small fans blowing into the stove room on low, the integrated blower on the insert really makes a huge difference. So I'll be ordering a replacement one here shortly. I found a good place to buy a quality replacement blower that doesn't cost $400 like the one from quadrafire.

We have an enerzone 1.8 insert ....im hell bent n determined not to fire the furnace this year or next (principle)....so far we are doing great. If this one wears out..i think we might step up to the next size bigger. Mainly for a little longer burn time...other than that..we r satified

It's the heat jacket around the stove... The blower pushes air through where on a freestanding stove it bets hot and radiates away. If it weren't for the fan, we would not be able to heat the whole house. A traditional stove with no blower would just cook use out of the room.

Congrats and welcome to the Drolet owners club. We meet on Tuesdays to swill Canadian beer, and compete in drunken curling matches.

Absolutely. That and the stove is pushed into the chimney/ and masonry.

Speaking of the blower fan I assume since its the main way of moving hot air its meant to run often? Mines is always on and got to thinking and meant to ask about it running so much. Its really amazing the amount of heat the blower can move when on full blast.

Yes blower should run most of the time when there is a fire. Mine came on late and kicked off early so I wired a toggle switch in to make it run when I want.

Whenever the stove is up to temperature, it should automatically turn on. There's a "snap disc" which is essentially a t stat or temp swtich to turn it on when the stove gets hot enough.
