Just got me a small log cradle for my splitter, here's the question, should i mount it up tight to where the splitter head runs into the backstop, or drop it down a little? My thought is, if i mount it up tight to the bottom of the ''runway'' for the splitter head, i could run a couple of welds from the cradle to the bottom of the ''runway'' just for extra mounting strength. I'll be drilling the frame in 2 places its a pretty well built little cradle, but, kind of considering the welding helping it to being even stronger. I'll take some pictures later and it might help give you a better idea of what i mean.

Waiting on :ithappened:.. my thought is, if you leave a drop and then you got to pull the split back to split again. It could make it inconvenient.

image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Ok here it is. I put the cradle up tight, and backed it up with some pieces of plate. Its kind of small but, it beats what i had, NOTHING, and i can make it a little bigger, one thing, if i weld it solid, i can't do the vertical splitting, it will hit the tire, this way, i can unbolt it, and do the vertical splitting. Take about 5 min to unbolt it. The second picture makes it look like its got a gap between the splitting and the cradle, it does not, it fits up nice and tight.

Looks great to me. Nice to have the option to remove it. Enjoy the fruits of your labour.

Yes, it looks good to me as well. The real test will be using it, then you'll see if you need to modify it.

Bolt it to some brackets so it can pivot "up", then it will clear the tire...

ha,ha, already been discussing mod's to it, like maybe just a tad wider and maybe even longer, think it would be simple, make a 1''x2'' frame, and 3/16's carriage bolts to the over lapping metal where its welded, and i think it would be perfect.

When I got my DHT splitter it came with the long flat table to protect the engine and I installed the log catcher with the bow in it on the operator side works well for me.
