Very true...just burn for comfort, not a fan of 80+ inside. Burning as needed, for me-I am the only one here and the cat doesn't really count since he has a fur coat. I am already seeing about a 30% savings in the amount of wood I am burning which I am thrilled with. 19f outside and going down to 10f or so tonight with a high of maybe 20f tomorrow and I am off, sooo I may keep the Baby Bear stoked a little more...I don't want to burn too low too often and have issues with chimney build up.
It's not a Secret...It's more of an advertisement...I am looking for folks to bring over a truck load or two and donate.
I've never rationed, I always have had more than enough. But now on the 3yr plan which is really a 4 yr plan. I just don't worry, I turned down some trees Tuesday, cause I just didn't have the time to get em. I've got logs in the woods I still gotta get out and now the snow is factoring in on that. It feels so good to be yrs ahead, I hope you all can get there yourselves. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
I probably burn at least 2-3 more face cords than anyone at work. They always ask "Why?".....My answer always is.." Because I can"...
When our household shifted from oil to wood as the primary heating source some 30 yrs ago, we purchased our wood supply locally for the first couple of years. During that time frame, I learned how to operate & maintain a used chainsaw purchased from a local father/son shop. I also learned how to fell/ limb/buck trees & operate a splitting maul from a former neighbor who worked for a local tree service. As experience is the best teacher, we realized the importance of getting in as much wood as possible whenever possible. Although my wife & I have 'put by' as much wood as extra time allows us, we have also become frugal via maintaining a comfortable for us indoor temp range (62 to 70) when we run the stove.
