After owning our new stove for 4 years, I felt it was time to finally take care of the rust buildup on it. As some know or you can see from my signature I owned a Soapstone stove prior. I'm not use to rust on my stove. Yesterday I picked up some steel wool, medium emery cloth and Black Stove Bright from the store I bought the wood stove at. I worked on a small section yesterday to see how it would come out, and was really surprised how well the finished product looked. Just like new. Today with the stove running which you'll notice from the pic, I set to cleaning the rest of the rest off the top of the stove. And you can see the remnants of the work being done on the front lip. Still have to do my cleanup. Once the stove is off and the temps come down, I'll paint the areas I've cleaned up today and post an updated picture(s) showing the final result. Jason from RI
I think I might need to do another coat on the top and front lip. It didn't come out looking near as good as the first section I did.
Looks good. It's a stove, it's meant to be used...can't keep them perfect and pretty for long, but you can always enjoy the heat. Great job.
Can't believe how much rust you had on that for being 4 years old. Looks way better and as it's been said, it isn't the look it is the heat.
